I am Kaichi Sugiyama.
On December 26, 2025, I turned 48.
In terms of the Heliocentric Calendar, Jupiter has completed 4 orbits. I have finally entered the fifth stage leading up to my 60th birthday. And 2026 marks the 19th year of the Metonic cycle since I began the Heliocentric Calendar. I, too, am feeling a milestone in my own life.
The lecture recording from the spring of 2024 has now been released. The title is "A story about the 'calendar' to gift at life's milestones".
It is a title that truly resonates with me right now.

There isn't just one calendar
As the year draws to a close, I think every year that there isn't just one calendar.
The Gregorian calendar is an economic calendar. The lunar calendar (old calendar) is a calendar of Japan's seasons. The Heliocentric Calendar is a celestial calendar.
We tend to lump these all together as "calendars," but to be precise, the lunar calendar and the Heliocentric Calendar are not calendars!
Calendars show days of the week and dates.
The Heliocentric Calendar shows the positions of the sun, moon, and planets.
Their perspectives and purposes are completely different.
Calendars are convenient for school or work schedules and paydays. However, for living in tune with the changing seasons, physical changes, and the rhythms of nature, a calendar aligned with celestial movements is useful.
Schedules and the Heliocentric Calendar
The sense of what a schedule is is also completely different.
When you look at a smartphone calendar, it is filled with plans like a "timetable." Moving by the minute or coordinating schedules. That is very convenient.
But when you stop for a moment and think, "Where am I in the universe right now?"—it is important to pull back your perspective and check the position of the Earth.
How much distance is there between today and the future? Where are you on the orbit? Checking that interval is what the Heliocentric Calendar is for.
A schedule is a street view (worm's-eye view).
You can clearly see landmarks right in front of you, like buildings and signs. You can immediately grasp where you will arrive if you turn the next corner. However, it is hard to see where you are in the city as a whole or where you are heading. Before you know it, you might find yourself lost.
The Heliocentric Calendar is an overview (bird's-eye view).
You can see the entire landscape of the year at a glance. From the vernal equinox to the summer solstice, autumnal equinox, and winter solstice—you can see where you are walking right now. You can see how much of a journey remains to your destination. It is a map that allows you to check your current location in the great journey called life.
It is not about which is better or worse, but that they have different uses. Use the street view for immediate plans, and the overview for the big picture of life. By using both appropriately, you can walk without getting lost.
Earthrise—An overview from Christmas Eve, 1968
December 24, 1968, Christmas Eve. Astronauts on Apollo 8, from lunar orbit, saw the blue Earth floating in the pitch-black universe for the first time.

"Earthrise"—the moment humanity first viewed the Earth from the outside.
It is said that the astronauts experienced a transformation of consciousness at this time, known as the Overview Effect. An Earth without borders. A planet that is incredibly fragile and beautiful, protected by a thin layer of atmosphere. Differences in race, religion, and culture felt trivial, and a sense of unity with all of humanity blossomed—.
The Heliocentric Calendar is a tool to have this perspective without having to go to space.
Where is the Earth in the solar system? By standing at that viewpoint, you can see a different landscape than your daily life in front of you. From street view to overview. On Christmas night, let us also imagine the Earth that the astronauts saw.
We who do not know the "perspective" of the heliocentric theory
Actually, it is only very recently in human history that we have begun to sense this perspective.

Copernicus and Galileo advocated the heliocentric theory, Kepler unraveled planetary orbits, and Newton discovered universal gravitation. As a concept, we know that the Earth revolves around the sun.
However, even now, much of astronomy and astrology remains geocentric—a view that places the Earth at the center. Everyone is familiar with the appearance of the solar system, but the heliocentric perspective of "how to actually see it, measure it, and use it?" is almost unknown.
The Heliocentric Calendar is a map of Japan, a map of the world, and beyond that, a map of the solar system.
It is a space-time map where the principles of time and space can be seen.
"What is the Heliocentric Calendar?"
HELIO COMPASS for beginners. How do you read it? How do you use it?
The invisible realm of "time," where various academic disciplines—astronomy, geology, and mathematics—are integrated across boundaries.Without using difficult explanations or technical jargon as much as possible, in easy-to-understand everyday language, I talk about this questionuncutin(2 hours and 38 minutes).
The origins of HELIO COMPASS as a map of space-time in the solar system, the philosophy of calendars, and how to apply it to daily life—I hope this serves as an opportunity for both newcomers and current users to learn "what HELIO COMPASS is" once again.

Afterword
I give lectures all over the country, but since I don't give the same talk every time, there aren't many opportunities for them to be preserved as video like this.
When asked, 'What is HELIO COMPASS?', I conveyed my own personal feelings of 'This is how I perceive it.'I hope that those who live far away and rarely have the chance to attend a lecture will feel free to watch it.
