The Theory of Relativity of Love: The Sun and the Moon Run a Convenience Store
The moon shines because there is night.
We speak of love because there is the moon.
Perhaps love is a shift-work arrangement between the sun and the moon—
If someone were to say to me, "The moon is beautiful, isn't it?"
I have always wanted to answer like this:
It is because the sun is sleeping.
Perhaps that is the most accurate answer.
Because the moon can only shine by receiving the sun's light.
The beauty of the moon is supported by the silence of the sun.
I believe this relationship is love itself.
1 On Invisible Light
The sun is not actually sleeping.
The rotation of the Earth creates the time we call night.
In other words, "the sun is sleeping" is merely an illusion where humans have named the unseen a "rest."
However,
within that illusion, the moon works quietly.
It takes on the silence and shines.
It illuminates the world in place of the unseen sun.
This composition,
I think, is just like "shift work."
2 The Form of Love Called Shift Work
Day and night,
sun and moon,
work and rest,
conversation and silence,
everything is built upon taking turns.
While one is working,
the other watches over and supports that work.
Love is surely like that, too.
If one side were to keep burning, the world would scorch.
If one side were to get too cold, the world would freeze.
That is why the sun and the moon take turns.
While letting each other rest, they never let the light go out.
It is like a married couple,
like colleagues,
and like a community of fate.
3 The Reason the Moon Looks Beautiful
The reason the moon looks beautiful is
because we are not looking at the sun.
We cannot stare directly at the light.
It is too dazzling.
But if it is reflected light,
we can accept it gently.
Therefore,
I think people are looking at the "sun" through the "moon."
It is
similar to the act of gazing at the brilliance of a loved one
from a slight distance.
4 A Prayer Called Relativity
In the end,
both the sun and the moon are in the same sky.
They just have different positions.
It is not about which is right or which is above,
but when the angle of view changes,
the brightness of the world changes too.
I believe that is relativity.
Love is also relative.
The way our times are out of sync.
The way our feelings differ.
The way the roles of light and shadow alternate.
That very misalignment
is what keeps the world turning.
5 A 24-Hour Universe
If the sun and the moon were a married couple
working in day and night shifts,
the universe would surely be like a convenience store.
A place that never lets the light go out, never rests,
and supports someone's night.
While the sun is sleeping, the moon illuminates.
When the moon sets, the sun begins to work again.
In other words, love is
the universe's first 24-hour business.
Conclusion
"The moon is beautiful, isn't it?" might mean
"Even when you are not here, I am watching your light."
And
"It is because the sun is sleeping" is a confession that
"Your silence is illuminating me."
Both shining and resting
are jobs that support the world.
Just as the sun and the moon work in turns,
human love also
continues in places unseen.
The Theory of Relativity of Love: The sun and the moon run a convenience store.
The reason there is always light in this universe is
because someone is taking the night shift.
Afterword
I realized while writing this that a convenience store in the countryside late at night is just like the moon.
If the stars are the light of streetlamps and vending machines,
then the convenience store must be an existence like a full moon, shining exceptionally large.
