Hello, this is Furao^^

This time, I'll introduce “The hidden power of hanpen! A recipe for hanpen fried chicken that requires no seasoning.”!

  • “I'm not good at elaborate cooking.... It's a hassle to think about seasoning ratios.... Is there a recipe even I can make?”

  • “I've only ever used hanpen for 'oden'.... Are there other ways to use it?”

This recipe is perfect for people like that, so please be sure to watch until the end^^

Ingredients (for 2-3 people)

  • Hanpen…2 pieces (220g)

  • Corn…50g (kernels only)

  • Potato starch…2 tablespoons

*Since hanpen is already seasoned, there is no need for extra seasoning like salt or pepper.

*Also, you can use “boiled corn” instead. If you don't like it, it's fine to leave it out.

Instructions

Mash the hanpen (both pieces) inside a bag. Mash it well

If you mash it until it's quite fine, it will make the subsequent steps easier.

Transfer the mashed hanpen, corn, and potato starch into a bowl...

Once you mix everything together, the dough is ready.

Next, roll the dough into balls about 3 cm in diameter.

You should get about 12 to 15 pieces.

The important part here is to squeeze them firmly after rolling to embed the corn into the hanpen.

If they aren't embedded enough, the corn will fall out during the next step.

Pour oil into a small pot to a depth of about 1 cm from the bottom and heat to 180°C.

Once heated, add the dough and pan-fry for about 3 minutes.

Flip them over and pan-fry for another 2 minutes to finish.

Drain the oil on a paper towel, and they will look just like golden-brown fried chicken.

The "crunch" of fried chicken, the "fluffiness" of hanpen, and the "snap" of corn. It's a new-texture side dish where you can enjoy each texture at once.

Feel free to add mayonnaise or shichimi spice if you like.

It staysdelicious even when cold, so it's perfect forbento boxestoo. It's also acost-effectiverecipe, so I hope you willgive it a tryat least once.
