The First Step to Escaping a Life That Makes You Unhappy
A life that makes you unhappy... what kind of life do you think that is?
And do you want to live such a life?
There might be people who think they want to make someone else unhappy,
but
I don't think there are many people who think they want to make themselves unhappy.
(Or rather, I would like to believe so.)
Even though you shouldn't want to be unhappy,
you might find yourself unhappy before you know it,
and perhaps you have even regretted it, thinking, "It wasn't supposed to be like this; if only I had done that back then..."
However, it is also a fact that there is no point in dwelling on what you have already done.
I believe it is more important to think about what to do next.
When thinking about what to do next,
I don't think it is very constructive to say that it wasn't your fault.
This is because it is not easy to change things that are not yourself, such as other people.
Because it is easier to change yourself.
I believe that by thinking that you are also responsible for your own unhappiness,
and by changing what you can change,
you can become happy faster than by expecting those around you to change.
What I have come to see by reflecting on my own past and listening to various people's consultations is that
"the more you think about what is right or wrong, the higher the possibility of becoming unhappy."
The human brain has a nature of not wanting to leave anything blank.
You don't want to leave things you don't understand vague; you want to label them and organize them.
When you apply a label, for better or worse,
it becomes fixed as "this is what this is."
Once it is fixed, it becomes faster to reach that conclusion.
However, on the other hand, it changes it into something inflexible.
When I was in elementary school, there was a little prank or wordplay like this.
What is the answer to 1+1=?
2!
Wrong, the correct answer was the character for rice field (ta)!
In Japan today,
1+1 = 2
is the case most of the time.
Numbers in Japan and the world are often expressed in decimal.
If it were the world of computers, binary is used, so
1 + 1 = 10
becomes the answer.
Let's return to the story of why arguing about what is right or wrong leads to unhappiness.
One of the characteristics of people is
the tendency to think that what they are thinking is the common sense of the world.
People have different experiences.
If you talk without taking that into account, misunderstandings will occur.
For example, it is the same as a person living in decimal and a person living in binary
arguing about which is correct regarding the answer to 1+1.
Both are correct.
If you are thinking about PC processing, binary is probably more appropriate,
and for a math test, decimal is often more appropriate.
What is correct changes depending on the situation.
In such a situation, a way of life that seeks an immutable answer
that solves everything regardless of the situation feels somewhat suffocating.
First, even if you think, "That's wrong,"
if you try accepting it for a moment,
strangely, you can let go of your tension and look at things in a relaxed way.
If you notice something, let's give it a try!
