[30-Day OJT Note | Day 7] Weekly Summary: Looking Back at the Basics of OJT
For those who, once accustomed to their temporary assignment, were tasked with "teaching the new temp" and ended up having to do everything on their own.
This is written for you, who may feel anxious because you have nothing to compare your methods against to see if you are doing it right.
I am writing this for you, who are feeling uneasy.
You, who have no benchmark to compare your methods against to see if you are on the right track.
This past week, I have covered the fundamental themes that everyone inevitably faces at the start of OJT.
・Why is teaching so exhausting?
・Some people feel resistant to being taught work.
・How to deal with a newcomer who seems to have a bad attitude.
・How and when to initiate communication.
・Progress checks and questions should come "from the trainer's side."
・Evaluation must be consistent and fair—perspectives to keep in mind.
Looking back,
all of these are essential foundations for thinking about "how to interact with a newcomer."
It can be said that this is precisely the area where many OJT trainers feel confused at first.
Insights from this week
Throughout the week, I felt once again that OJT is built upon "human relationships."
A single word from the trainer can make a newcomer feel reassured or anxious.
A newcomer's motivation can change significantly depending on how they are evaluated and treated.
Teaching is not just about the other person's growth; it is also a chance for self-reflection.
In other words, the first step of OJT is "how to understand and interact with the other person."
Before teaching techniques or procedures, it is extremely important to establish this foundation.
Looking ahead to next week
Next week, we will proceed with the theme of "failure and improvement."
In OJT, there will inevitably be situations that do not go as planned.
You explained it, but they didn't understand.
You thought you gave instructions, but they didn't get through.
Even though you tried to be considerate, friction still occurred.
When that happens, how should you reflect and how can you improve?
Let's think about it together through concrete examples.
Thank you for reading until the end.
💥 Day 7: Breaking through the seventh step!
The fact that you are continuing is an achievement in itself.
