[30-Day OJT Note | Day 24] The Habit of "Preparation" to Avoid Being Chased by Teaching
To those who, once accustomed to their work at a temporary placement, were tasked with "teaching the new temp" and ended up having to do everything on their own.
I am writing this for you, who feels anxious because there is nothing to compare your methods against to see if they are correct.
A common issue in OJT is that the time spent teaching drags on longer than expected,
leading to the pattern where "in the end, my own work gets pushed to the back burner."
The key to preventing this is the habit of "preparation".
1. Preparation only takes "5 minutes the day before"
You don't need long hours of preparation.
"Just 3 points to teach tomorrow."
Simply jotting this down the day before will make the flow of the day go smoothly.
2. Prepare manuals and screenshots in advance
Explaining on the spot takes time, so:
• Organize screen captures
• Write down important points on sticky notes
If you do this, all you have to do is "teach while showing them".
3. "Pick up" the absolute must-teach items
Even if you prepare a lot, you will only actually use about half.
That is why it is effective to pick up only "the things that absolutely must be taught".
By doing this, even if you are a little short on time, there will be no rework, and you can proceed with OJT with peace of mind.
4. Anticipate questions and prepare "answer templates"
The places where newcomers stumble are generally the same.
By anticipating the parts where they will likely ask questions,
and preparing answer templates (short explanations), you can respond without panicking.
5. Preparation also leads to "your own peace of mind"
When you have prepared,
you can feel at ease knowing, "It's fine because I've prepared properly."
With this sense of security, you can teach without rushing and with composure.
Summary of today
• Preparation only takes 5 minutes the day before
• Preparing captures and sticky notes can shorten explanations on the day
• Picking up only what must be taught prevents rework
• Anticipate questions and prepare answer templates
• Preparation also leads to your own peace of mind
Thank you for reading until the end.
✨ Day 24 Let's take a little break.
The trick to maintaining rhythm is to "not stop, but loosen up."
