After the Bath: One More Job—The Challenges of Assisting with Dressing and Safety Considerations

When bath assistance is over, there's a moment where you feel a little relieved, thinking, 'Finally done!'
But every caregiver should know this.
The real challenge actually starts right here.

The user's skin is still damp, and if you don't dry it thoroughly, clothes won't slide on easily😅
Even if you wipe them carefully with a towel, if any moisture remains, sleeves and pants will get stuck.
When you're pressed for time, you might feel rushed—but pulling too hard can damage their skin.

Furthermore, elderly skin is very delicate.
A little bit of friction can cause subcutaneous bleeding or skin tears.
That's why you must 'not rush, but keep moving'.
Finding that 'rhythm' to proceed while ensuring safety is difficult.

Caregivers can also hurt their backs or shoulders by trying to put clothes on in awkward positions.
Thinking about each other's safety, being careful, yet staying smooth.
Striking that balance might actually be the moment that requires the most focus.

Even after bath assistance is finished, you can't let your guard down.
Still, when the user puts on clean clothes and smiles while saying 'Thank you,'
there are moments when that one word makes the fatigue feel much lighter.
