I tried replacing my iKBC keycaps with Keychron ones

Hello, this is Dorayaki.

I replaced the keycaps on the keyboard I am currently using, so I decided to write an article about it.

The keyboard I am currently using

It is the iKBC CD108.

I was using a Fujitsu Mobile Keyboard before, but I recently bought the CD108 for a change of pace.

What I liked most was the Kailh Deep Sea Silent Pro Box mechanical switch that comes standard as a silent brown switch.
It has a more solid tactile feel than the common Gateron brown switches, and I really liked the typing feel.

Reason for wanting to change the keycaps

The iKBC CD108 keycaps are dye-sublimated PBT and are high quality.
However, the texture was a bit matte, so I thought I would like something a bit shinier, and I changed the caps for a change of pace.

The keycaps I changed to

These are Keychron keycaps for the JIS layout. I chose these because I liked the color scheme and the size (U) of each key included seemed to be a good match.

As an aside, when I walked around Akihabara looking for these keycaps, there were seriously no stores selling them (I even went to Yusha Kobo, the mecca for custom keyboards, but they didn't have them).

It seems that there are almost no physical stores that sell keycaps in general, let alone Keychron keycaps. So I just clicked 'buy' on Amazon.

Actually trying the replacement

Before the change

Unboxing the keycaps

When you open the box, the keycaps are lined up.

After replacing the keycaps

There were some parts where the size didn't match, but since they were keys I don't use like 'Muhenkan' or 'Kana', I just attached caps that fit the size.
Also, the functions listed on the function keys are naturally different from those on a Keychron keyboard, but I'm ignoring that as well.

By changing the caps, the typing feel has also changed slightly. It has become a more composed typing experience, and I really like it.

So that's it for this time. Thank you for reading until the end.
