◆Conversation Starters◆ No.46 A Memorable Boss: Branch Manager O
This is a story from a branch I worked at in my fifth year after joining the bank. My second child was born, my first boy, and after worrying over it with my wife, we decided on the name 'Sho'.
One day, I was called by Branch Manager O.
"S-kun (that's me), congratulations on the birth of your eldest son!"
"Thank you very much."
"Have you decided on a name?"
"Yes, we have. We haven't registered it yet, but it's 'Sho'."
"Hmm, 'Sho', huh... Are you really sure about that?"
"My wife and I thought about it together and decided on it, so it's 'Sho'."
" Hmm, 'Sho', huh. S-kun, think about it carefully. Alright, go home now, go to a bookstore, buy a naming book, and think about it one more time with your wife!
" So, despite being in the middle of work, I suddenly ended up going home.
Since I came home early, my wife was super surprised and
her first words were, "You! Did you get fired??" Σ(・□・；)
I explained the situation to my wife, and I complained,
"Even if he is the branch manager, telling me to go to a bookstore, buy a naming book, and think about it again with my wife after I told him we already decided on 'Sho' is rude!"
My wife agreed, saying,
"We thought about it hard together, so 'Sho' is decided. We aren't changing it."
The next day, first thing in the morning, I told the branch manager,
"Branch Manager, I consulted with my wife, but we still don't intend to change the name from 'Sho'!"
"I see, so 'Sho' is decided... It didn't change..."
That was all that was said, and the conversation ended.
A week later, my direct supervisor told me,
"S, the branch manager is calling for you!" When I went to the branch manager's office, he said,
"S-kun,
congratulations on the birth of your eldest son, 'Sho'-kun!
This is a gift from me." He gave me a large gift box. "Oh, Branch Manager, I'm sorry, thank you very much 🎵" I was surprised, accepted the gift, and went home. When I got home and opened the box in front of my wife, it was a deluxe album with
'Sho-chan's Growth'
embroidered on it and a cute boy standing out in 3D. Both my wife and I were simply filled with emotion...
P.S. My son and his wife and my grandchild are coming over for New Year's, so I plan to use this memory album to show them photos of when my son was born and tell them this story.
Branch Manager O in heaven, thank you for the emotion and happiness you gave me. I will never forget Branch Manager O's thoughtfulness for the rest of my life!
