[Day 28] "Just like last time" is the most difficult request
Hello. I'm Erikosu, a hairstylist with 19 years of experience.
I am currently taking on the challenge of building an app called "Hair Medication Notebook" in 260 days. I want to create a system where people can carry their hair history on their smartphones, which otherwise gets lost when moving or changing stylists. That is the passion with which I started this project.
For more details, please see the first episode ↓
Yesterday, I wrote about how I watched a Glide tutorial video but was still totally confused 😂.
Today, too,
I had an experience that made me keenly feel the necessity of the "Hair Medication Notebook."
A customer's request today
Today, a customer came in with this request.
"I don't want to use gray hair dye,
I want you to dye it nicely using fashion color."
I said, "I understand."
And when I asked for details...
A complex history is revealed
The history the customer told me.
Two times ago: Salon A
→ It was dyed nicely ✨
Last time: Salon B
→ It didn't go well at all 😭
This time: Our salon
→ I want it dyed just like two times ago
And then, the customer said this.
"Two times ago, after leaving it for 30 minutes,
it was dyed nicely.
Please dye it the same way."
However, it's full of unknown information
"After leaving it for 30 minutes, it was dyed nicely."
I understood that.
But,
I don't know the manufacturer of the color agent.
I don't know the recipe.
I can't replicate it just by the processing time.
Which manufacturer's color agent was used?
What color number, and in what ratio was it mixed?
Without knowing that,
"the same way" is impossible.
The customer doesn't remember either
"Which salon did you go to two times ago?"
"What color did they say it was?"
Even when I ask,
the customer
doesn't remember clearly either.
"I think... it was a salon called XX, maybe."
"The color... I'm not sure, but
it was nice."
Hmm... 😂
In the end, I have no choice but to perform the procedure based on guesswork
In the end,
I had to look at the customer's hair,
guess from the current state of their hair,
"I think it's probably something like this,"
and perform the procedure.
Of course,
I did the best consultation I could,
and tried my best to get close to the customer's wishes.
But,
without accurate information,
reproduction is difficult.
If only there were a "Hair Medication Notebook"...
If
there were a "Hair Medication Notebook."
At the salon from two times ago,
・Manufacturer of the color agent used
・Color number
・Ratio
・Processing time
If all of that was recorded,
and the customer showed it to me on their smartphone.
"The same way" would be possible.
The customer, too,
wouldn't have to have the disappointing experience of
"it didn't go well last time."
-----
**[Main Heading] It really is necessary**
Seeing today's customer,
I thought once again.
The "Hair Medication Notebook"
is really necessary.
I want to eliminate these "cannot reproduce" problems.
I want to create a world where customers,
no matter which salon they go to,
can say
"Just like last time"
"Make it look nice."
Even though I couldn't make progress on development today either
Today, I was busy, and
I couldn't make any progress on the development of the "Hair Medication Notebook."
But,
*
I was able to confirm the necessity of this project once again.
In the field, these kinds of problems happen every day.
That's why
I have to make it.
Without rushing,
but without giving up,
I will move forward one step at a time.
Tomorrow, I will continue studying Glide.
Thank you for reading until the end today as well.

Look forward to the next episode!
