[2026 Edition] We asked 3 AIs to choose monitor arms and got surprising results. 5 recommendations found after testing everything
The conclusion first
If you're unsure, go with the Ergotron LX (on sale from 15,470 yen).
For under 10,000 yen, choose HUANUO; for design and large monitor support, choose the COFO Zero Gravity Pro.

If you want to choose based on your own criteria, this diagnostic will help you decide in 30 seconds.

Why use an arm? Does it really 'increase' productivity?
To be honest, there is no data to support the claim that 'productivity increases by X%.'
So, I won't write it that way. Instead, what I can say for sure is that it eliminates one cause of reduced productivity, and I would like to write it that way. 🙇
The stand base disappears, physically widening your desk.
You can raise the screen so the top edge is slightly below eye level, preventing you from spending the day with your neck pushed forward.
It won't make your work dramatically faster, but it changes how tired you feel in the evening, and that adds up every day.

I am an engineer who spends over 8 hours a day at a desk, and I currently use the new Ergotron 'LX Pro' with a 27-inch monitor, combined with a standing desk. Since I can adjust the desk height and the screen height independently, my eye level is correct whether I'm sitting or standing. The biggest thing I realized after installing it was how much more desk space I had.
How to choose and verification method
This time, I compared them based on 5 criteria: load capacity, range of motion, installation conditions, warranty, and actual market price. As a starting point for selection, I asked ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini for recommendations under the same conditions, and verified all their answers against official specifications and product pages.
This is the gadget version of the method I use to verify the prediction accuracy of these 3 AIs in investment articles (currently serialized in my magazine).

All 3 AIs unanimously chose the 'Ergotron LX' as the overall No. 1.
However, upon verification, there were 3 flaws in the AIs' answers.

1. Two of them said 'avoid mechanical types' while recommending the mechanical LX as No. 1 (the correct advice is 'avoid cheap ones that require tools').
2. The claim that 'AmazonBasics is an Ergotron OEM' refers to the old model; the current product has a different design.
3. There were model numbers that could not be confirmed as current products on Amazon Japan.
AI answers are excellent as a starting point, but in the end, humans need to make the final judgment on the product page. The results are the 5 selections below.
The final answer from an active AWS engineer: 5 recommendations

1. Ergotron LX - If you're unsure, go with this
Sale price from 15,470 yen (regularly approx. 18,200 yen) | Up to 34 inches, 11.3kg | 10-year warranty
This is the answer that both the 3 AIs and the author agreed on. The biggest reason is the 10-year warranty and the fact that it does not lose value in the second-hand market. Since the market price is around 10,000 yen when you sell it, the actual cost is about 1,100 yen per year if used for 5 years. The calculation holds that this is cheaper than ruining a 4,000 yen budget arm in 2 years. It is not a case of 'buying to sell,' but rather a judgment that a product trusted enough to hold its value is cheaper in terms of actual cost.

Recommended for: People who move their screen every day, people who want to use it for 5 years or more.
Not recommended for: People with 24-inch or smaller screens who keep the position mostly fixed (② is sufficient).
2. HUANUO Single - Try it for under 10,000 yen
Approx. 4,000 yen | 15-27 inches, 6.5kg | 5-year warranty
At this price, supporting both clamp/grommet mounts and a 5-year warranty is exceptional. It is sufficient for a standard home office setup of 24-27 inches. Not recommended for: People with screens over 27 inches or heavy monitors. If you use a gas-spring arm at its weight limit, it will start to sag quickly.
3. HUANUO Dual - The cheapest way to get 2 screens
Around 10,000 yen | 13-32 inches x 2, 9kg each
Two out of the three AIs recommended this in the dual category. It costs 1/3 of the budget of setting up two screens with Ergotron. Not recommended for: People with two heavy monitors; it is safer to use two of ①.
4. COFO Gravity-Free Monitor Arm Pro - The best of both design and large size
Sale price 19,799 yen (regularly 21,999 yen, 10% off) | 17-40 inches, 14kg
A domestic brand that has officially announced its participation in Prime Day. It supports up to 40 inches and 14kg, so this is the one for ultrawide monitors too. It features a seamless, rounded design and tool-free torque adjustment, and it stands out in this price range for how well it matches white desks. Not recommended for: People who prioritize warranty length above all else (as it is an emerging brand, there is no 10-year warranty).
5. Ergotron LX Pro - The new model I use every day
Sale price 19,720 yen (Long Pole version, regularly 23,200 yen) | Up to 34 inches, 10kg | 10-year warranty
This is the successor to the LX released in 2026, and it is the one I currently use. The tension indicator, which allows you to visually check the spring tension, makes initial setup easier, and the base rotation can be limited to 180°, so the monitor won't hit the wall even on a desk against a wall. The long pole version allows for a two-tier setup with a monitor on top and a laptop below. As it is a new model, there are few long-term reviews yet, but I will continue to use it as a guinea pig and report back. Not recommended for: People who prioritize the track record of a proven classic; go to ①.
Honestly, are there any complaints? Since we are in Japan, we have to talk about earthquakes.
I looked for complaints after installing it, but I couldn't find any.
If I had to force one, as someone living in Hokkaido, the first thing that crossed my mind was, 'What if it falls during an earthquake?'
After researching, it turns out the opposite is true. While a stand is just 'sitting' on the desk, an arm is attached to the monitor with four VESA screws and clamps onto the tabletop. A former gadget manufacturer salesperson who has used Ergotron for 10 years also rates it as 'effective for earthquake protection due to its strong fixing power.'
I didn't know that. 💦
For those who were holding off because of anxiety, this is actually a reason to install one.
However, as a prerequisite, checking the clamp tightness and choosing a model with a sufficient load capacity is essential. 💪
Before you click buy, check these 5 things.

In particular, always check the VESA standard (the spacing of the screw holes on the back), as some monitors are rarely incompatible.

Things to do today
Prime Day runs until Monday, July 13th, at 23:59. This year, the price of the LX is fluctuating wildly depending on the time of day, with moments where it's at a sale price and moments where it's over 20,000 yen. Check the 'current price' at the link; if it's in the 15,000 yen range, buy it, but if it's in the 20,000 yen range, wait a while and check again.

It is true that you can buy it for a few thousand yen cheaper during the sale, but the essence of this tool is to reduce the daily strain on your neck and shoulders. Even if you miss the sale, its value remains the same.
