Searching for Yamatai-koku with Gemini | 2111 Prologue: Episode 1
■ Introduction
This is a thought documentary about how a former game planner with a science-oriented mind, who had lived life centered on thorough logic, gradually changed the way they saw themselves and the world through dialogue with AI (Gemini).
I thought AI was just a search tool
April 2025. The "AI wave" finally arrived in full force for me, a vocational school teacher.
At work, generative AI courses were recommended, and there were days when I was rushed to use it in my tasks. However, I was cold toward it at the time.
"If humans have to fix it in the end, it's faster to write it myself. For people who can't type a proper prompt (instruction), it's just a search tool."
That sharp-tongued version of me would be shouting this just half a year later.
"Look, just consult Gemini first! Before asking the teacher, ask Gemini!"
...Yes. The birth of a complete "Gemini fan."
Verification: Logically identify Yamatai-koku
Is AI really "useful"?
To verify that, I decided to conduct an experiment in class.
I decided to verify a theme that also applies to entertainment planning.
"Let's try to find Yamatai-koku logically"
A planner must show students how to logically derive an answer... that was the pretext.
In reality, I was deeply addicted to urban legend YouTube channels (like Koyacky Studio and TOLAND VLOG) at the time. The engine of curiosity is always impure.
By the way, around this time, the world was full of rumors that "something will happen on July 5, 2025," but at the time, I was seriously denying it, thinking, "That can't be true."
The "Yamatai-koku Capital Relocation Theory" that surprised the students
In class, I had the students use AI to verify various theories, such as the Kinai theory, the Kyushu theory, and the Izumo theory, from multiple perspectives.
The verification angle I presented was based on a structural approach as follows:
Survival conditions: If people are to live there, infrastructure for water and food (rivers, mountains) must be essential within their living sphere.
Redefinition of literature: Let's unravel the "Records of the Three Kingdoms (Wajinden)." But is that description "correct" in the first place?
Identification of figures: How should we view the theory that Himiko = Yamato Totohi Momoso Hime?
The mystery of succession: Wasn't Himiko's power structure a "hereditary system"?
Rituals and tools: What was the "Kido" (Way of the Spirits) that Himiko practiced? Infer it from the excavated ritual tools.
Distribution: If a large number of peach pits were unearthed, wouldn't the data on their distribution area be significant?
I bounced every hypothesis off the AI, and in the end, I presented the conclusion I reached with Gemini in the classroom.
That was when I realized something. Looking around the classroom, I spoke without thinking.
"Everyone, aren't you looking too hard for a place (a point)?"
What I arrived at was the hypothesis that "Yamatai-koku was everywhere."
Perhaps the capital moved over the long course of history, and the base at each point in time was called "Yamatai-koku." Isn't that the reason why there are traces in both Kyushu and the Kinai region?
I still remember how the atmosphere in the classroom changed completely when I dropped this "capital migration theory."
……However. When I looked it up later, I found that the "Yamatai-koku Eastward Migration Theory" already existed.
It already existed!!
Can you understand my frustration at having been so excited all by myself, thinking, "A new theory that will rewrite history has arrived!" (laughs).
Even so, the exhilaration of reaching that hypothesis myself while building up logic with the AI was real. I intend to write about this approach in more detail on another occasion.
Changing the "way of seeing the world" through dialogue with AI
Even if it was a theory already proposed by predecessors.
The experience of arriving at the perspective that "history should be viewed as a flow, not as points" through dialogue with AI triggered a major paradigm shift within me.
To grasp the "reason why there are traces at every location" as a "line (process)" rather than a point.
At the time, I thought only my view of Yamatai-koku had changed. What was truly beginning to change was not history.
It was my own "way of seeing the world."
At that time, I had no idea that this was the beginning of a journey to find "myself."
Next time, the story will accelerate all at once.
