To all note users | Actually, you might have a long healthy life expectancy
Life will eventually come to an end.
However, I think we all want to stay healthy until the very end without needing help from others as much as possible.
I imagine that is what you all think.
I feel the same way.
Actually, I recently found some very happy research results.
People who read books live longer.
In fact, research on this topic has continued in recent years.
In 2016, Yale University in the United States announced research results showing that people who read books have a lower mortality rate than those who do not, and live about two years longer on average.
Furthermore, in 2025, interesting research was also published in Japan.
After tracking approximately 70,000 elderly people for over seven years,
the more well-equipped a region's libraries were, the fewer people required long-term care.that is.
・For every one book increase in library collection per capita, the risk of needing long-term care decreases byabout 4%
・For every 10 books increase per capita, the risk of needing long-term care decreases byabout 34%
・For every additional library in a region, the number of people requiring long-term care isabout 48% lower
And interestingly, it was found that these results also involve factors other than the amount of reading.
In other words, what extends healthy life expectancy is not just the habit of reading books,
but it may also be related toa lifestyle of maintaining intellectual curiosity
by visiting the library.
Why does reading extend healthy life expectancy?
For health,
・Diet
- Exercise
- Sleep
- Stress
There are many factors, such as these.
However, reading has a power that is slightly different from those.
By reading text,
- The brain works actively
- You encounter new knowledge and ways of thinking
- Empathy is cultivated
- Stress is alleviated
- It leads to the maintenance of cognitive function
This has been shown in many studies.
Furthermore, if you go to a library,
It becomes a reason to go out.
Opportunities to meet people increase.
There are also chance encounters with new books.
In other words,
reading is a habit that enriches not only the brain, but also human connections and life itself.
Perhaps note is the modern-day library.
When I read this research, this was the first thing I thought.
“Could it be that people who read note are a group with a long healthy life expectancy?”
On note,
there are people who write articles almost every day,
and there are people who read those articles carefully.
Life experience.
Stories of failure.
Work wisdom.
Philosophy.
Psychology.
Hobbies.
AI.
Science.
By encountering various writings,
“I see”
“I never thought of it that way”
your own world gradually expands.
This is a very rich time, similar to reading books.
I
think note is something like a modern-day library.I believe it is.
I used to be a “workaholic.”
Actually, I used to be a typical workaholic.
One day, my boss said this to me.
"Don't become a workaholic. Go home early and read books."
That comment was the catalyst for me to develop a reading habit.
However, even after that, my life remained centered around work for a while.
I worked as a bank employee, and even after that, I spent every day focused on work as a manager.
Even on my days off, I would think about work,
and the books I read were mainly those useful for my job.
Of course, that experience is still an asset to me today.
But after experiencing a disaster and illness,
"Life is not just about work"
I came to truly believe that.
Since then,
philosophy,
psychology,
Buddhism,
the universe,
science,
and I started reading books about life.
It was not to increase my knowledge.
It is to savor life more deeply.
Reading also makes your mind healthy
The benefits of reading are
not just knowledge.
Touching someone else's life,
being able to think,
"I'm not the only one,"
having a heavy heart feel a little lighter,
or becoming able to think positively about tomorrow.
Personally,
not just from books,
but I also get many insights from note articles.
Writing has
the power to heal people's hearts
and make life a little richer.
Why not read a little today as well?
When we talk about extending healthy life expectancy,
exercise.
diet.
sleep.
Many people would probably come up with that answer.
Of course, those are very important.
But I think that,
“maintaining intellectual curiosity”
is just as important.
Opening a book today.
Reading an article today.
Those 10 or 20 minutes,
might just be a gift to your future self.
That is what I believe.
Continuing to write on note,
and reading someone else's article,
are habits that gradually enrich your life.
So, to all you note users,
please rest assured.
You might have a longer healthy life expectancy than the average.
Of course, I can't guarantee it (laughs).
Reading text,
thinking,
learning,
A life spent staying connected with others
will surely enrich both your mind and body little by little.
I intend to continue learning through books and note,
and I want to savor life more deeply.
And together with all of you,
I would be happy if we could grow older with rich hearts.
Finally, I think about something like this.
I believe that healthy life expectancy is not just about physical health, but about maintaining a heart that wants to 'know' and 'learn' until the very end.
Thank you for reading until the end.
