Part 1: When the Code of the Gospel of John is Cracked: A Story of the 'Heavenly Jesus' and the Reader Encountered by Expanding Perspectives
◆ The 'Heliocentric Theory' of Reading the Bible
The sun rises in the east every day, moves across the sky above us, and sets in the west. If we follow what is 'visible to our eyes,' it is very natural and logical to believe in the 'geocentric theory' that the heavens revolve around the earth.
However, if we shift our perspective to the universe and view the entire solar system with a broader vision, we can see the beautiful universe of the 'heliocentric theory,' where it is actually the earth that is moving. And by transitioning from the 'geocentric theory' to the 'heliocentric theory,' Newtonian mechanics was born, and we have been able to receive the immense benefits of science and technology.
The way we read the Bible, especially the Gospel of John, is exactly the same.
Reading this book, like the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, as a record of the 'earthly Jesus' who was born in the flesh in the land of Palestine, preached, died on the cross around 30 AD, and was resurrected, is a very natural way to read it. However, this is a 'geocentric' way of reading that fixes our perspective to the narrow time and space of the earth and limits the Son only to the 'earthly Jesus.'
On the other hand, if we lift our perspective from there and view the whole as a 'vast tapestry of time and space' stretching from Genesis to Exodus, the Books of Kings, the Babylonian captivity, and into the 21st century—the 'Heavenly Jesus' emerges vividly. This is the 'heliocentric' way of reading the Gospel of John. By shifting the way of reading from the 'geocentric theory' to the 'heliocentric theory,' we will be able to obtain overwhelming benefits that far exceed the benefits of science and technology.
The 'Heavenly Jesus' is the Son who was in heaven with the Father from the beginning, created all things, sent the Spirit of God to the prophets to convey the Word of God, and was sent into the womb of Mary, the betrothed of Joseph. The Son, as the 'earthly Jesus,' died on the cross, was resurrected, and ascended to heaven on the 40th day, becoming the 'Heavenly Jesus' once again. And from heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit to the disciples on earth to convey the Word of God. This work of the 'Heavenly Jesus' has continued to the present day in the 21st century, and countless disciples have received the Word of God through the Holy Spirit.
In this note, I will unravel, one by one, the work of the 'Heavenly Jesus' in the magnificent time and space hidden behind the Gospel of John, which no one has noticed until now, like fitting together pieces of a puzzle, based on the 'heliocentric' reading.
◆ The Beginning of Everything: The Intuition of John 12:28
The reason I was able to see this astonishing composition of the Gospel of John was triggered by a 'hypothesis' given to me a few days after Pentecost one year.
In John 12:28, there is a scene where the voice of the Heavenly Father resounds in response to Jesus' words, 'Father, glorify your name.'
John 12:28'I have already glorified it, and I will glorify it again.' (NIV)
The first half, 'I have already glorified it.' Many commentaries have interpreted this as the earthly miracles Jesus had performed up to that point.
However, I suddenly thought, 'Isn't this already glorified' referring to the Exodus of Moses and the giving of the Law in the Old Testament?'
After gaining this intuition and contemplating the structure of this book, the following hypothesis was given to me.
'The Gospel of John is layered with the Old Testament era'
is the hypothesis.
And when I verified this hypothesis, it was revealed that chapters 1 through 11 of the Gospel of John overlap with the entire history of the Old Testament in perfect chronological order without a single error.
• Chapter 1: Genesis (Patriarchal era of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob)
• Chapter 2: Exodus (Blessing of the Passover and the miracle of the Sea of Reeds)
• Chapter 3: Latter part of Exodus, Numbers to Samuel (Giving of the Law and transition to the Davidic monarchy)
• Chapters 4-10: Books of Kings (Rise and fall of the Northern and Southern Kingdoms)
• Chapter 11: Ezra-Nehemiah to Malachi (Return from the Babylonian captivity and the silence of the Old Testament)
◆ The Hidden 'Another Timeline' and God's Humor
That was not all that was surprising.
The Gospel of John had a phenomenal multi-layered structure that simultaneously overlapped not only the Old Testament but also the era of the 'Acts of the Apostles,' which depicts the work of the Holy Spirit after the resurrection and ascension.
• Chapter 1's sequence of 'the next day' is a code for the '50-day countdown' from Jesus' resurrection to Pentecost (connecting to the heavenly staircase = ascension on the 40th day).
• Chapter 2's 'on the third day' indicates the 50th day of Pentecost, and the Wedding at Cana is a celebration of the beginning of the New Covenant. Jesus driving out only the animals (not the people) in the 'Cleansing of the Temple' is an allusion to the end of the old sacrificial system through Christ's cross (Acts 2).
• Chapter 4's 'Samaritans' are the Samaritans who believed in Jesus through Philip's preaching and received the Holy Spirit through Peter and John (Acts 8). The 'royal official and his household' are the Gentiles Cornelius and his relatives and friends who believed in Jesus through Peter's preaching and received the Holy Spirit (Acts 10).
• Chapter 5's '38 years of illness' at the Pool of Bethesda is a code for the '38-year' transition period from the cross in 33 AD to the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple in 70 AD.
• Chapter 9's mud that Jesus applied to the blind man's eyes becomes 'fish scales' when it dries and cracks, a description of the conversion drama where scales fall from the eyes of the later persecutor Saul (Paul) (Acts 9).
There, God's most sophisticated wit, esprit, and 'superb humor' that makes you slap your knee in surprise were also scattered, which you would never see from a book of rigid dogmas.
◆ We are the protagonists sitting in the 'front-row seat' in Chapter 13
And there is a great secret hidden from Chapter 13 onwards. From the Last Supper in Chapter 13, a person whose name is withheld, referred to as 'the disciple whom Jesus loved (the beloved disciple),' suddenly appears.
At the Last Supper, he listens to the sermon from the front-row seat right next to Jesus, and he witnesses His final moments directly beneath the cross. Who exactly is this beloved disciple?
It is not any specific person from 2,000 years ago.
The beloved disciple is the 'reader (us)' themselves, who transcends time and space to meet the 'Heavenly Jesus' through the Holy Spirit by reading this Gospel of John.
The Gospel of John invites us into the story in Chapter 1 as 'another disciple' whose name is withheld. Jesus asks the disciple invited by 'John'.
John 1:38'What are you seeking?'
What are we seeking? If it were superficial desires like wanting more money, wanting to eat delicious food, or wanting to travel on a luxury cruise ship, we could answer easily. However, what we are seeking in the depths of our hearts is not something that can be answered so easily. To such people, Jesus says:
John 1:39'Come and you will see.'
Thus, the journey with Jesus begins. By traveling with Jesus through the Old Testament and the age of the apostles, our faith is nurtured, and by the time we reach Chapter 13, we become able to listen intently to Jesus' sermon at the 'Last Supper' as the beloved disciple, and we become able to understand deep truths. And by witnessing the cross and the resurrection up close, we come to understand what we are seeking in the depths of our hearts.
Today, in the world, including Ukraine and the Middle East, many people are suffering from the ravages of war and are far removed from peace. The 'Heavenly Jesus' deeply grieves over this. By reading the Gospel of John from a broad perspective using a 'heliocentric' view, I hope we can share in the deep sorrow of the 'Heavenly Jesus' and walk toward a peaceful world. I believe that peace is an overwhelming blessing that far exceeds the benefits of science and technology.
I was once invited to a journey with Jesus by the words of an acquaintance,
John 1:36 'Behold, the Lamb of God'
and by traveling with Jesus, I was nurtured into a beloved disciple. This acquaintance was my 'John.' Now, I wish to become a new 'John' and pass this baton to the 'beloved disciples' of today and the future.
Would you like to join me in solving the full picture of the beautiful and magnificent puzzle of the Gospel of John that has gone unnoticed until now?
