During the morning session, it briefly recovered to the 67,000 yen level, reaching its highest point in about two weeks since July 23.

The primary factor behind this sharp rise is that the U.S. employment report for July, released in the United States, fell below market expectations. With the cooling labor market easing concerns over excessive interest rate hikes and leading to a decline in long-term interest rates, a risk-on mood spread across the U.S. market, centered on semiconductor-related stocks. This momentum has spilled over directly into semiconductor and AI-related stocks in the Tokyo market.

Technically, a symmetrical triangle pattern had formed where the resistance line and the rising support line were converging, compressing energy to its limit. The U.S. employment report acted as a catalyst, causing this spring to snap upward all at once. Semiconductor manufacturing equipment-related stocks such as Advantest and Tokyo Electron are strongly driving the index.

Also, it is worth noting that today's market activity was broad-based, extending beyond semiconductor stocks; for instance, Recruit Holdings, which announced strong earnings exceeding market expectations, was bought up to its daily limit. This sent a strong message to the entire market that the earning power of Japanese companies is genuine, acting as a trigger to dramatically improve investor sentiment.
On the other hand, toward the afternoon session, some selling to adjust positions due to caution over high prices was observed, and there were moments where the upside felt heavy. As the conflicting environments of the U.S. interest rate cut phase and Japan's financial normalization intersect, it will be more important than ever to have a perspective that calmly assesses corporate fundamentals and structural changes in the market as a whole, rather than being swayed by superficial news.
