Torihara's Manga Production Diary 3: Publishing a manga for the first time in 25 years, I ended up with an erotic romantic comedy
In the previous article, I wrote about how I was flattered by AI into drawing a 'boring story' in great detail.
I had the courage to scrap 'The Crane That Eats Memories' and 'The Women's University Saga', and thought, 'Well, what is a subject I can actually draw now, and what do I really want to draw?'

That was when I happened to come across a video on a statistics YouTube channel.
It was about how the younger generation these days 'doesn't date' and 'doesn't have sex', but just seeks efficiency and 'wants to get married immediately to a high-spec partner'... that such a trend exists.
From my perspective as someone born in the Showa era, wait a minute?
Efficiency is important, but once you actually start living together, it's really tough if you don't match on 'how you spend money,' 'food preferences,' and 'sexual compatibility.'
The imbalance called 'sexual compatibility'
So, digging deeper, what exactly is 'sexual compatibility' in the first place?
In society, generally:
• Men are praised if they are 'good' and have their entire personality dismissed if they are 'bad'.
Lack of experience = unpopular with women
• Women are not praised for being 'good,' and if they are 'bad' (inexperienced), their virginal value is sometimes celebrated.
Even though it's the Reiwa era, this imbalance in values remains deeply rooted, doesn't it?
After all, no one has taken 'lessons,' and there are no 'exams' either.
You are put on the chopping block of being evaluated as 'good or bad' through almost entirely on-the-job practice. Especially men.
I decided to turn this fuzzy 'sexual distortion' into a story.
I love romantic comedies!
That said, I can't draw difficult stories lol
But everyone likes 'erotica' and 'romantic comedies' (at least I do!), so I decided to draw it in that package.
The plot is something like this
Two people who met efficiently through a matching app.
But she, who looked innocent, was overwhelmingly better at it.
Moreover, she was younger than him. What happens to the man then?
How to use AI
This time, I used AI as an 'editor who points out contradictions in the story's structure.' I didn't let it come up with ideas; once I had it point out only the unclear and bad points, I was finally able to create a story that I felt I could draw without it falling apart.

It's been 25 years since I stopped drawing manga.
There were twists and turns, but this is 'what I wanted to draw now' that I was finally able to give shape to.
