[Life Hacks and the Practice of Tanka] 5 pieces of advice to reduce your money worries even a little

In our daily lives, we use brain resources when we are conscious of tasks or what we need to do right now.
However, those resources have limits, and when we exceed those limits, our work performance declines.
The capacity of those resources is called cognitive resources.
It seems that in daily life, we are overusing these cognitive resources, leading to increased stress.
To avoid wasting cognitive resources, it is important to reduce the things you need to do (^^)
To that end, it is said to be good to categorize the huge list you have written down into the following three categories.
■ "Do now" to-do list
■ "Do soon" to-do list
■ "Do someday" to-do list
It would be great if you could make it a habit, but to save cognitive resources and reduce mental distress, it is important to establish the following three things, so please try to be conscious of them.
① Reduce the things you need to do as much as possible
② Reduce the things you need to remember (prospective memory) as much as possible
③ Ensure you complete only your routine work
However, since it is important to use life hacks that suit you, I think you should choose the methods that are easiest for you rather than trying to fit yourself into what is presented (^^)
Now, for those who want to think about what life hacks are,
"You who read me, are you sure you understand my language?" (from J.L. Borges' "The Library of Babel")
I will introduce concrete examples of hacks combined with the practice of Tanka, which I think can be called the repetition of presenting a way of life in the first person (self-making), so will you be driven into a daily world where such (hack-like) ways of life are considered desirable?
Please check it out (^^)
1. Distinguish between "needs" and "wants"
It is easy to complain to your employer about not having enough money.
You could switch to a job with better take-home pay or negotiate a salary increase with your boss.
However, if it were that easy, you wouldn't be struggling; what you can actually do is discipline your own overspending.
Consuming in accordance with your income does not mean lowering your quality of life.
It is simply a matter of clearly distinguishing between what you "want" and what you "need."
When you are completely immersed in the advertisements that overflow in society, the boundary between "need" and "want" becomes blurred before you know it.
This "distinction" is extremely important both psychologically and financially, and it can also serve as a catalyst to re-examine the fundamental question of "What do I really need in life?"
2. Change your mindset and attitude toward money
Money is nothing more than a magical item that can be exchanged for "anything," allowing you to purchase goods and services.
Because of this, the idea that "money is everything" can dominate your mind, and when it is lacking, you may even mistakenly feel as if "not having enough money equals not having enough oxygen," causing you to feel stressed as if you are suffocating.
The original article states, "Reducing financial stress can mean convincing yourself that money isn't everything," which means that if you can recognize that money is not everything in the world, you can reduce stress related to money.
Therefore, it recommends reconfirming the various things you possess (physical, mental, and skills) and your experiences (while calming your mind through meditation or deep breathing).
It also states that while it is inevitable and necessary to worry about money in the future, it is also important to know that "it is impossible for humans to control everything" (though not in the original text, it is the idea of que sera, sera... what will be, will be).
Alternatively, participating in charity work might help you discover new value in yourself.
3. Ask for help
Even if you cannot solve your financial worries on your own, others may have ideas on how to solve them.
It is the idea that "two heads are better than one." Asking friends or family for help is a convenient way to start.
Please be careful to ask them to "lend you their wisdom," not "lend you money."
If the person you are consulting has similar worries, just talking about them can reduce stress by "sharing the burden."
Alternatively, they might already know a solution and be able to teach it to you, or there may be problems that can only be solved by working together with the person you are consulting (for example, buying food in bulk or car sharing).
Another option is to consult with a financial planner (FP) who handles personal asset management and household budget consultations (who is, of course, a qualified professional).
Since they accept consultations as their profession, they require a certain fee, but you will likely gain various financial wisdom you were previously unaware of, such as tax-saving methods, how to receive public funds, and smart ways to restructure your insurance.
4. Pay off your debts
If you have remaining debt, interest will continue to accrue until it is paid off, even if your monthly payments are reducing the principal.
And every time you see related documents in your mailbox, your stress gauge will surely rise.
Of course, there is such a thing as 'good' debt.
For example, low-interest debt for necessary purchases or expenses set under special conditions, such as home or student loans, does not need to be paid off prematurely.
The point is to distinguish between 'good debt' and 'bad debt' in your household, just as banks do, and to make an effort to eliminate the latter as quickly as possible.
The debt related to 'things you want' mentioned in '1.' is a good example of this.
And you should try to avoid using credit cards as much as possible, as they are usually classified as 'bad debt'.
5. Create a budget and stick to it
There are quite a few people who keep a household account book.
However, how many people create a budget in advance, as countries and companies do?
The majority of people surely think that 'making a budget is a hassle,' but by creating a budget and spending according to it, your anxiety about a lack of money will strangely subside.
This is because a budget becomes a nautical chart or route map for your money, and at the very least, you can 'see what lies ahead'.
(This is an excerpt from 'HowStuffWorks,' which introduces five pieces of advice to reduce such 'financial worries' (and the stress caused by them).)
'At the twilight Co-op Iwakura, I bought three "discounted 20th-century pears"'
(From Kasumi Kondo's 'Hanaori Fault')
'Whispering "mega-bank, mega-bank," in a country where cherry blossoms bloom where teeth should be'
(From Kazuko Otaki's 'Bamboo and Venus')
'Under the scorching sun, I stood with you in the square until my sad heart shone'
(From Masahiko Dozono's 'Eventually Reaching Autumn Eggplant')
'I have reached the age at which Nobunaga fell, with 18 million left on my home loan'
(From Hikaru Koike's 'Still Life')
"Necessity is because we can finally allocate the Reconstruction Agency's budget"
(From Shun Omi's 'Scatter, Waters')
