6 Things I Did When My Mental Health Suffered During Fertility Treatment

Hello.
I'm Asami, a 35-year-old full-time working mom who loves coffee☕️

I've been busy with the end of the fiscal year, so it's been a while since my last update🥲

This time, I'm writing aboutwhat to do when your mental health suffers during fertility treatment.
Fertility treatment can really break your heart, can't it?💦

It's not like the results always follow the effort you put in, and I would constantly search for things about fertility treatment, wearing myself down mentally...

Even when you tell yourself, "I'll try not to overthink it," overthinking is just part of the process.

I'm going to write about the six things I did when my mental health felt like it was at its breaking point🌼

I hope this helps lighten the hearts of those of you working just as hard.

1. I made an effort to reduce the time I spent thinking about fertility treatment

When you're undergoing fertility treatment, it inevitably becomes the center of your life.

I was constantly searching online, worrying about symptoms, and my head was always full of it.

But I realized that if I kept going like this, I would just get exhausted, so I intentionally tried to focus on other things.

I went to my favorite cafes, binged on TV dramas, went to concerts for my favorite artists, and took short trips.

I feel like taking time away from fertility treatment helped rest my mind.

2. Writing down my painful feelings in a notebook

There are times when you have frustrations building up inside that aren't quite worth talking to someone else about, right?

At times like that,I would write exactly what I was thinking in a notebook.A simple piece of paper is fine, too.

"It's so hard, so hard, so hard!"
"What if I can't get pregnant?"
"Why is it that things never go well for me?"

It doesn't have to be pretty language; just write it all out exactly as it is!

Writing it down allowed me to look at it calmly, and my feelings settled down a little bit.

3. Giving myself a big reward

When you are trying to conceive, it is easy to focus only on "doing your best." However, I realized that it is also important to be kind to yourself while you are working so hard.

I asked myself, "What is a treat for myself that I have never had before?" and decided to splurge on a high-end candle...!

It is a Jo Malone candle 🥹

This treat was better than I imagined...!
My evening relaxation time became high-quality, and I found something to look forward to every day ♡

It really lifts my spirits, so I highly recommend it!

4. Incorporate things you love into your daily routine

I truly love enjoying coffee and tea time ♡☕

To ensure my day didn't just end with work and fertility treatment, I consciously made time to rest my mind and enjoy the things I love.

Below are my recommended coffees 👇🏻♡

5. Even if the result is negative, praise yourself by saying, "You worked hard this time too"

When I got a negative result, I used to just blame myself over and over.

To be honest, I think fertility treatment is about whether you get pregnant or not. It feels like 0 or 100...

But I want to dare to value the steps from 0 to 1, and 1 to 2.

"It was negative, but you worked hard on it this time too."
"Good job for making it this far!!"

I tried to keep thinking that way.

6. Make time to be in touch with nature

Since the ocean is nearby, I often went with my husband to watch the sunset and just zone out.
Strangely, nature makes it so you can't think about anything.

In Niigata, if you go a little further, there is plenty of nature.
It was very refreshing.

When you are trying to conceive, your perspective inevitably becomes narrow.

I felt that those are the times when you can reset your mind by feeling the seasons or being in touch with the nature of the sea and mountains.

Trying to conceive is a time that takes a lot of energy, not just from your body,
but also from your mind.

I tried various things, such as changing my environment, valuing my five senses, and reducing the time I spent thinking about it altogether!

It's not just about working hard; I think it's also important to
make time to be kind to yourself.

Trying to conceive can sometimes feel like a long journey, but I feel like I've learned tocherish myself during that time.

If you have anything you do when things get tough, please let me know in the comments♡
I hope this helps lighten the hearts of others who are working just as hard🕊️
