Vegetarian Meals for a Japanese-German Family in the Land of Sausages: April 2026 Issue
The last time I shared our family's vegetarian meals on note was in March, wasn't it?
It's already late May, time flies! I thought I'd write about April and May together, but perhaps because the days have gotten longer and it's easier to take photos, I have quite a lot of them, so I'll start with April.
This year in Germany, the weather was slow to warm up, and in April we were still eating meals that felt like remnants of winter.

When it's just me and the kids, I often make things my partner doesn't like, such as Japanese potato salad, borscht, or miso soup.

During the Easter break at the beginning of April, our family went to the Czech Republic for a 3-day, 2-night trip. I did my best despite the limited vegetarian options 😉

It was a cold start to spring, but I was so excited when seasonal asparagus appeared that I splurged and bought some to eat. And even now, I'm enjoying asparagus every day, trying to savor it all before the harvest stops at the summer solstice.

Speaking of seasonal vegetables, this year we enjoyed Bärlauch (a wild herb similar to wild garlic) more than ever. It grows in heaps in our garden 😉

I didn't notice it in April while I was complaining about the cold, but the colors have gradually shifted to a spring/summer palette. You can see from the photos that the frequency of raw vegetables and salads has increased.

In April, I returned to the market, rolling sushi and offering vegan cakes. The recipe for the matcha cake is almost complete, and I've also managed to adapt it into a chocolate-based cake.

I'm also happy that it's become a pleasant season to relax and look at the plants while enjoying coffee or cocoa on the balcony.

That was our veggie meal life in April. I hope this serves as a reference for those interested in veggie meals 🍚
I'll leave a link to my favorite textbook for veggie meals and sweets here!
For some reason, the Spanish version of "VEGESUSHI," which I introduced the other day, is included in Kindle Unlimited, so those with a Kindle Unlimited subscription can read it for free😉 The beautiful photos of pressed sushi are irresistible for vegetable lovers.
