[Video Revolution] How I Made a Movie Trailer in 2 Hours Using pollo AI and iMovie

“A movie created entirely by generative AI
‘Matilda: The Devil’s Gene’” has been released.

I’ve been seeing news like that quite often lately.

“The era where you can make a movie with just AI has arrived.”

What an amazing time we live in.
Honestly, until recently, it felt like someone else’s business.
It’s amazing. But I couldn’t imagine myself doing it.

—But then, it suddenly occurred to me.
“I have the perfect experimental material for this.”

Seeing is believing.

First, please take a look at this movie trailer, which I made in just 2 hours by collaborating with AIs.

What did you think?
I never thought I’d become the director of such a classic fantasy movie (laughs).

Today, I’m going to reveal the behind-the-scenes story of how this video was born.

From character diagnosis to movie production

A while ago, referring to articles by AI experts Lynx-san and Lapis-san, I had an AI diagnose my “fantasy RPG world self.”

The result was a ‘Knowledge Tuner’ who tunes information into a usable form.

This setting felt strangely fitting, so I thought, “Well then, let’s make this character the protagonist and create a movie trailer using only AI!” and that’s how it started.

Materials from pollo AI, structure from iMovie

I only used these two things this time.

  • pollo AI: Generating video materials

  • iMovie: Trailer templates

After actually trying it, I had a major realization.
It was that it wasn’t about “editing,” but “placement.”

iMovie templates come with a movie blueprint—including “introduction,” “buildup,” and “climax”—already prepared.

What you do is simple.
Just fit the materials the AI created into the slots, like “this cut goes in this frame.”

Rather than technique, it’s closer to the feeling of tuning ‘where to place what.’

This was a major discovery for me.

The secret to my own 'tuning' method to keep characters consistent

The biggest hurdle in AI video production is that the face and clothing change with every cut.

This time, I used two tricks to prevent that.

1. Completely fixing the 'actor' with Gemini GEM

First, I created a dedicated Gemini GEM to generate the still images that serve as the basis for the video. I gave it the role of a 'highly skilled illustrator' and made it strictly follow the rules below.

・Strictly adhere to a size of 1280px wide by 720px high
・Generate based on the attached character (a mage in a blue robe)

Custom instructions (fixed prompt) for Gemini GEM

By passing prompts to this 'exclusive artist,' I was able to have the same protagonist appear in every scene.

2. Improving accuracy with pollo AI's 'multiple references'

Furthermore, the features in pollo AI were powerful.

While normal AI videos are made from a single image, pollo AI has a feature to create videos based on multiple still images (Image-to-Video).

Since you can specify up to three illustrations, the accuracy of the overall video image is overwhelmingly higher than with just one.

It was truly a 'god-tier feature' that allowed me to animate the world created in Gemini without breaking its consistency.

Prompt for Pollo AI
Video generated with the above command

* By the way, regarding the pollo AI introduced here, I am currently working on a project with them.

pollo AI regularly distributes 200-300 credits for free, and in my case, I noticed I had accumulated about 1100 credits in about a month.

The 'Image-to-Video' feature I used this time only consumes 10 credits for a video of up to 8 seconds.

Even when making many cuts like a movie trailer, it feels quite generous in terms of credit consumption.

Image generation prompts actually used

I am also sharing the prompts I gave to Gemini GEM to create the still images this time.

If you want to try your hand at AI video, please use these as a reference.

【Morning of Departure】A young mage wearing a blue hood and glasses standing in front of a large stone gate in a city. Carrying a large backpack on their back, holding a grimoire and a staff with a glowing blue orb in their hands. An endless meadow and blue sky stretch out before them.

【At the Bustling Market】The blue-hooded mage walking through a lively fantasy world market. Stalls selling rare fruits and weapons line the area, which is crowded with people coming and going. They are looking around while pushing up their glasses.

【To the Unknown Ruins】 The mage standing at the entrance of ancient ruins covered in giant plants. The pale blue light leaking from deep within the ruins is reflected in their glasses. The orb on the staff illuminates the surroundings, with an expression mixed with fear and curiosity about the unknown place.

【First Battle】 The mage casting magic against a monster in the forest. Pages are flying up from the grimoire, and a blue magic circle is unfolding on the ground. Dynamic action pose.

【Crossing the Rugged Mountains】 A party traveling through a rugged snowy mountain in a blizzard. The mage is protecting their companions by casting a magic barrier while resisting the wind. Harsh nature, dramatic composition.

【Decisive Battle: Dragon's Nest】 The mage unleashing all their magical power in front of a giant dragon. A huge pillar of light rises from the orb of the staff, and their glasses are glowing white. Traces of fire and destruction are all around.

Summary: Filmmaking as a Tuner

What I felt this time is that we are definitely shifting from an era of “creating” to an era of “selecting and tuning” to.

Instead of wielding the sword yourself (editing in detail), you place geniuses from each field (the AIs) and tune them into a single worldview.

The role of director was the perfect job for a “knowledge tuner” like me.

What kind of character would you make the protagonist, and what kind of story would you film?

The era where anyone can sit in the “director's chair” as long as they have a little curiosity is already here.

If you have thought, “I want to turn my story into a video,” I think just trying out pollo AI is fun enough.
