Delivering the thoughts of 100 adults. Donating the complete set of Space Brothers to Komaki Municipal Komeno Elementary School in Aichi Prefecture
Promoting the motto "Making donation a culture"
the note membership "Katsuo Club"
One of the initiatives of the Katsuo Club,
the "Space Brothers Nationwide Donation Project"
is progressing little by little...
We have now completed our fifth donation in February 2026.
To the teachers at Komaki Municipal Komeno Elementary School who kindly accepted our donation,
thank you very much.
We are only able to carry out these donation activities
because of everyone in the Katsuo Club.
Thank you all so much, as always.
For this donation, thanks to the school's generosity, they held a donation ceremony during one of their class periods.
They even made time for me to speak to the students as a representative of the Katsuo Club... I am truly, truly grateful for such precious time.
I spoke to 109 third-grade elementary school students.
On the day of the donation ceremony,
I arrived at the venue, chatted with the teachers,
and headed to the venue for the lecture and donation ceremony.

Regarding the autographed board,
we at the Katsuo Club purchased the entire set from the official website of Cork Inc. Therefore, this board is included as a purchase bonus.
On the desk where I sat to speak,
I arranged the manga to be donated like this.
On the day, Cable TV CCNet,
Chunichi Shimbun, and the Komaki City Public Relations Division came to cover the event.

As the start time of the class approached,
with a mix of nervousness and excitement,
the 109 students entered the room.
And then the chime rang.

In my approximately 20-minute lecture,
I talked about "dreams."
The thing I wanted to convey most in this talk,
was "not to make fun of dreams."
Whether you have a dream now,
or you don't have a dream now,
it doesn't matter.
What is important is
to be able to talk about your own dreams.
And to be able to support your friends' dreams.
Not making fun of dreams is a hint
to being able to keep a "smile" when you become an adult.
The manga Space Brothers teaches us that.
I was allowed to convey that.
This is a philosophy that 'Miiko-san,' the initiator of the 'Space Brothers Nationwide Donation Project,' holds very dear.
I conveyed it by arranging it in my own way.
Regarding Miiko-san's thoughts,
I personally think this article conveys them particularly well, so I will paste it here.

After the lecture, the students wrote down their thoughts on 'dreams' on paper. I heard this will be displayed as a garland in the third-grade hallway at a later date.
This seems to have been the teachers' idea... thank you so much for coming up with such a wonderful project, especially when you are already so busy!!

Once the garland was finished,
it was finally time for the Space Brothers donation ceremony!!

I handed the manga to two student representatives,
and received words of thanks from one student representative.
Even though they were nervous, they looked me straight in the eye,
and the way they expressed their gratitude was very cool and wonderful.
Thank you to the three student representatives.
They looked happy, and that made me happy too.

After the donation ceremony ended, at a later date,
I visited Komeno Elementary School again.
When I visited the third-grade class during their lunch break...
I was greeted with things like, 'Oh! It's Masaki Adachi!'
or 'Are you the person from the Katsuo Club!?'
They remembered me; that made me so happy.
'Thank you very much!'
I wonder how many people said that to me.
I was truly happy.
And in the classroom...
So many children were actually reading Space Brothers!!

Seeing the children actually reading them like this made me incredibly happy.
After that,
I was shown the garlands decorated in the third-grade hallway.

While all the children
wrote their dreams and goals with all their might,
there was a child who wrote these words.

“Don’t make fun of your friends’ dreams, or your own.”
This is what I wanted to convey the most.
It wasn’t just one or two children who wrote these words.
It was the same during the
television interview held on the day of the donation ceremony.
“Don’t make fun of your friends’ dreams, or your own.”
There was a child who said that.
This also made me truly happy...
To the teachers at Komeno Elementary School,
and the 109 students,
thank you so, so, so much for this time.
Thank you for the precious experience, the precious time, and the inspiration.
I will bring the new volume (the final volume) when it is released.

When I interact with children,
it really makes me think about
what I should be doing as an adult.
By the time today’s children become adults,
what kind of future will it be?
I believe it is the role of us adults to create that starting now.
Saying something like this might sound like a very large-scale topic, but that is not what I mean.
For example,
Greet people cheerfully,
Look people in the eye when listening,
Don't make excuses (don't blame others),
Say thank you,
Apologize sincerely as well,
Don't speak ill of others,
Don't litter.
Adults should show this kind of behavior.
Show it clearly to the children.
I believe that such small, steady efforts are the most important thing.
Adults must firmly uphold and clearly demonstrate these small but important things.
I believe that is the role of an adult.
The activities of the Katsuo Club are the same.
100 adults
each contribute a small amount of 100 yen.
When that is gathered and accumulated little by little,
it can achieve something tremendously large, like this donation.
Let's move forward little by little together.
Thank you to everyone in the Katsuo Club.
This project started in 2025.
This marks the fifth school to receive a donation.

For those who think, 'I'm worried about what membership is...'
☆ Will others know?
Membership has an option to set your status as 'Public / Private'. If you join privately, only I will know that you are a member of the Katsuo Club.
☆ Is there interaction?
There is basically no interaction between members.
Sometimes comments are exchanged on the bulletin board, but most people just watch quietly. Some people introduce themselves when they join, while others remain silent (I think about 70% are silent, but that's perfectly fine).
☆ Are there events?
There are basically no events or meetings, either in-person or online.
☆ I'm new here, is that okay?
I sometimes hear concerns about whether it's okay to join a community where everyone is already close... but I myself have not met most of the Katsuo Club members. (Despite that, they joined, and I have nothing but gratitude!!!)
There are some people I interact with on note, but only about 1% have I met in real life. The same goes for the members among themselves, so please rest assured even if you are a complete newcomer.
☆ Can I cancel my membership?
The good thing about note memberships is that both joining and canceling are easy. If you join with your membership set to private and then cancel, no one around you will know at all.
I think the hurdle for joining a membership is quite high, but I hope that by unraveling each concern like this, you will feel more at ease joining. In particular, the purpose of the Katsuo Club is to realize 'continuous donations,' not to have members interact, become friends, have monthly ZOOM meetings, follow each other, etc., so if you are not comfortable with those things, please rest assured.
Only the Carrot Plan (100 yen per month) is free for the first month, so please feel free to join!!!
