One-off contracts are "money," lifetime contracts are "assets" | A single firework, or a flame that burns forever...

◆ Introduction

This series introduces the world of Shin-gen Miyamoto's main business. Because I have frequently received requests from readers of my newsletter saying I'm interested in copywriting and want to hear about the shadow copywriter work Miyamoto is involved in, I have decided to start posting this as a serial series.

If you are looking for a new source of income, or are interested in side hustles or starting a business, please take a careful look.

Note: This is not the kind of information often seen on the internet like "Beginners can earn money in just a few minutes a day, on the side, easily, with one click!"... (laughs)

This is a "proud calling (work)" that I have been engaged in for 20 years with conviction and passion.

Note: This article is part of a series, so if you haven't read the previous articles yet, I recommend reading the back issues first.

The decisive difference between a one-hit-wonder copywriter and a copywriter who secures "lifetime contracts"

In the business world, there are those whose contracts end after one job, and those who continue to receive requests from the same client for many years.

Between the two, there is a difference in "trust-building ability" that goes beyond the difference in skill.

Of course, it is important to produce results in the first transaction.

However, many freelancers and copywriters only focus on "the results of that moment."

How to face the client after producing results...

There are a surprising number of people who lack this perspective.

The "3 Trust-Building Steps" that Miyamoto keeps in mind

The reason I have been able to secure continuous contracts (lifetime contracts) with most of my current clients is not simply because the quality of my writing is high.

Rather, the secret lies in "how to accumulate trust" after that.

◆ Step 1: "Visualize" the results

People feel at ease when results are shown to them in numbers or data.

For example, after delivery, I analyze and share reports on the client's sales trends and response rates myself.

The attitude of 'I am pursuing this for your sake'lays the groundwork for the next contract.

◆ Step 2: Provide 'extras' even outside the contract

Make value-added suggestions within a range that does not incur additional fees.

For example, after delivering a sales letter, lightly include some SNS post ideas or improvement suggestions that match it.

If they think, 'This person gives more value than the contract requires,'the idea of giving work to someone else will disappear.

◆ Step 3: Don't forget the human 'connection'

Once a month, engage in small talk or share status updates unrelated to work.

If you are trusted as a 'person' beyond the business relationship, you will not be swayed even if competitors try to pitch to them.

When your trust balance accumulates, you are also freed from price competition

As you accumulate trust, you become'irreplaceable'in the client's mind.

Once that happens, you won't even be brought to the table for price negotiations.

Conversely, when trust is shallow, it is easy for them to think,'I'll switch if there's someone cheaper.'

This is the biggest reason why repeat contracts don't continue.

Examples of 'lifetime contracts' I have actually experienced

I have several clients with whom I have had continuous business for over 10 years since the first contract.

During that time, they have apparently received sales pitches from other copywriters many times, but one client said this:

If it's not you, Miyamoto-san, the 'vibe' of our company cannot be expressed in the writing.

When I heard these words, I was convinced.

The true weapon of a copywriter is not just writing ability, butthe ability to internalize and write about that company's culture and values.

The key to repeat contracts is 'trust balance'

  • Provide peace of mind by visualizing results immediately after the contract.

  • Provide value beyond the contract to earn trust that goes beyond the bonus.

  • Build a human relationship that transcends business.

If you keep these three things in mind, a one-time transaction will turn into a 'lifetime contract'.

And that will become the foundation of stable income, supporting your business strongly and for a long time.

◆ Miyamoto Shingan's 'Today's First Shot' series

Among those who follow Miyamoto, I will introduce the new articles of those whom I plan to return a 'like,' 'follow,' or 'comment' to as my first action of the day.

There is absolutely no 'selection bias' or 'favoritism' by Miyamoto himself in the selection of these articles.

Based on the order of email notifications for 'Likes, Follows, and Comments' sent from note (in chronological order), I will introduce the people Miyamoto plans to reply to first for the day.

Currently, Miyamoto's articles receiveat least 2,000 views per article, so I started this project thinking that being featured here would, to some extent, provide access support for followers' articles and create opportunities for new connections between followers.
