Relieve Parenting Stress! 3 Practical Mindfulness Techniques to Lighten Your Mind
My child won't listen to me...
Balancing work and parenting is so hard...
I have no time for myself...
As a parent, you are likely exposed to various stressors every single day.
When stress piles up, both your mind and body will start to scream for help.
That is exactly when mindfulness comes into play!
Reduce stress with mindfulness! How does it work?
Mindfulness involves focusing your awareness on the "here and now," which allows you to:
Observe your emotions, thoughts, and bodily sensations objectively.
Break free from the "autopilot mode" that causes stress and choose your actions consciously.
By doing this, you can stop being swayed by stress and spend your days with a calm mind.
3 Mindfulness Stress Care Techniques You Can Start Today
In this article, we will introduce three mindfulness stress care techniques that you can easily practice while raising children.
1. Body Scan

How to do it:
Sit in a chair or lie on your back in a quiet place.
Close your eyes and begin to breathe slowly.
Direct your attention to each part of your body, from your toes to the top of your head.
Simply observe the sensations you feel in each part (warmth, coldness, heaviness, lightness, pain, itchiness, etc.).
If any emotions or thoughts arise, simply observe them as well, and let them go.
Continue for about 5 to 10 minutes, then slowly open your eyes at the end.
Effects:
Relieves physical tension and enhances relaxation.
By facing your own body and mind, you can become aware of the causes of your stress.
Recommended points:
Practicing before bed leads to higher quality sleep.
You can practice it even in short amounts of time, such as while your child is sleeping.
2. Walking Meditation

How to do it:
Start walking slowly.
Walk while being conscious of your five senses, such as the sensation of your soles touching the ground, the movement of your feet, the sound of the wind, and the surrounding scenery.
If any thoughts come to mind, let them go and return your focus to the sensation of walking.
Continue for about 5 to 10 minutes.
Benefits:
By focusing on daily movements, you anchor your mind in the 'here and now'.
It also helps resolve a lack of exercise and leads to refreshing both mind and body.
Recommended points:
Try doing a walking meditation yourself while taking your child for a walk.
You can also practice it inside the house by finding a little bit of time.
3. Gratitude Meditation

How to do it:
Sit in a comfortable position in a quiet place.
Close your eyes and begin to breathe slowly.
Try listing three things you are grateful for in your mind.
Reflect on each thing you are grateful for, savoring it deeply while recalling specific episodes or emotions.
Continue for about 5 to 10 minutes, then slowly open your eyes at the end.
Effect:
It enhances positive emotions and brings a sense of happiness.
It can also be expected to reduce stress and negative emotions.
Recommended points:
By practicing when you wake up in the morning or before going to bed, you can start or end your day with a positive mindset.
It is also recommended to share feelings of gratitude with your children.
Consistency is key!

Mindfulness is all about daily practice.
It might feel difficult at first, but as you continue without giving up, you will surely feel your mind becoming lighter.
