School Morning Visits

Wednesdays through Fridays, 9am to 11:59am

Enjoy bringing your class for a visit before the doors open to the public. During this 2-3 hour structured visit trained Lowell educators will guide your students through an engaging and educational experience. Exact activities vary but all of our content is designed with school and science standards in mind for all ages PreK through High School. Your students will leave with a newfound excitement for our universe and a stronger understanding of the physical world around us.

Daytime Visits

Weekdays*, Noon to 4pm

Astronomy isn’t just for nighttime! Explore the exhibit halls, historic telescope domes, and view the sun through a special Hydrogen Alpha filter telescope. Schools must break into chaperone-led groups of 10 students per adult. This is a self-guided rotation through all activities. We recommend staying for 2-3 hours.

Weekend/Nightime Visits

Saturday & Sunday, Open – Close
Weeknights*, 5pm – Close

Enjoy our beautiful night sky and learn about the vast array of things to discover in our sky from planets to galaxies. Explore the exhibit halls, historic telescope domes, and telescope viewing from the Giovale Open Deck Observatory. Telescope viewing is weather dependent. Schools must break into chaperone-led groups of 10 students per adult. This is a self-guided rotation through all activities. We recommend staying for 2-3 hours.

Classroom at Lowell

Want to teach your STEAM lesson in a private classroom at Lowell Observatory? Move your lesson to Lowell Observatory. We will provide a classroom setting for up to 30 students. We can also provide a Lowell Educator to assist before, during, and after the lesson. Teachers must provide the lesson supplies. Please reach out to fieldtrips@lowell.edu to inquire about tools and availability.
