Thank you for your input

[edit]

Thanks for your input on the Shipping Forecast article - and I'm not just saying that because you agreed with me! :D Egg Centric 21:07, 2 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • I was just visiting after enjoying your input at ANI too. Wanting to know you better, I started browsing this talk page as your user page doesn't say much. It was interesting to learn that you seem to be an American who listens to the Shipping Forecast, which makes you a very rare bird, I fancy. FYI, that's my kind of article as it heads the List of longest-running radio programmes, which I started.
While I'm sailing by, I should compliment you on your account name which has a nice ring to it. Mine is more prosaic so I livened it up with the dragon. See here for some reasons why.

Hello, dragon...Ha! I see what you did there! My wife is proudly Scottish, likely of those who were such a thorn in the side of the Romans. Also, my grandfather was a ham, so I listened to a lot of BBC programming when I was a young and beautiful redneck in the south. I, of course, heard Stephen Fry's parody, later. This reignited my fondness for the Shipping Forecast, and then interest in learning about BBC history.
FWIW, I am not a fan of Sanger, or the anti-woke crusaders who treat WP as some combination of mountain to be climbed, service to be privatized, and mouthpiece to be wrangled; but, I very much dislike the practically instantaneous demonization of those who rationally and calmly question some of the more dogmatic modern norms which have taken hold here. There's a balance to be found; I like to think that I help with that. Hiobazard (talk/contribs) 14:27, 31 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Like a toddler...

...your comments brought a few tears to my eyes. Thank you for your kind and accurately summarizing words. Randy Kryn (talk) 13:21, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I hope the tears are metaphorical. Given the bizarre bifurcation in western society, I think the angst drips down into WP stuff without proper consideration. Most of us are trying to be helpful unpaid volunteers here...strife will happen. But I want it to be like rugby. Play hard, then trade jerseys and go have a pint. Guild of Copy Editors – September 2026 Newsletter

Hello, and welcome to the September newsletter, a quarterly digest of Guild activities since June.

Election news: Project coordinators play an important role in our WikiProject. Following the mid-year Election of Coordinators, we welcomed TNM101 to the coordinator team. October 2026 Administrator Elections – Call for Candidates

[edit]

The administrator elections process has officially started! Qualified editors are encouraged to find at least one experienced nominator. Self-nominations are also allowed. Please review instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2026/Candidates.

Here is the schedule:

  • September 29 – October 5: Nominations phase (we are here)
  • October 8–12: Discussion phase
  • October 13–19: SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

  • The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed. However, in practice, few candidates succeed without ~10K edits, some content creation, no recent behavioral issues, and a nominator.
  • Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for admin elections candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
  • The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
  • The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
  • Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. Later, a user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.
