Article title and scope
[edit]I'm not sold on the current article title but I thought it was the best fit for the scope, which should be "video game live streaming". That phrase, though, is never used in sourcing, as "live" is redundant in the source parlance, but "video game streaming" could refer to any number of OnLive- or PlayStation Now-style streaming media services in which the game runs on a server and only the display is pushed over the Internet. "Video game streamer" has a similar problem, but to a lesser extent: It might refer to the software in which individuals stream games, but that is within the scope of the article too. "Streamer (video gaming)" has the same issues, and the natural disambiguation would be preferable over the parenthetical.
The most pressing need for the article was to define the profession of "streamers", who (as a group) are mentioned in almost every contemporary game article, as their success often depends on promotion/testing through streamers as gatekeepers. This article's scope would be a sensible fit for information on the "streamer" profession, its history and role. czar 05:41, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
- Currently the title and purpose of the article don't work well together: the title implies that the purpose is all of video game life streaming when it is only covers the streamers themselves. The title should be changed to "Video game live streamers" to accurately describe the article. Alternatively the article's scope could be expanded to talk about all of video game live streaming and have a section on the streamers. Austinh291 (talk) 19:41, 19 February 2020 (UTC)

Proposed additions to expand coverage of platform trends, monetization research, and gameplay engagement
[edit]Hi everyone! I’m a new Wikipedia editor, and I’m working on improving this article as part of a course assignment. I wanted to propose a few additions before making any changes.
1. Platform shifts and market share (2024–2025 studies)
[edit]I’d like to add a brief paragraph summarizing recent research on the changing landscape of livestreaming platforms. Several reliable industry reports from 2025 (Streams Charts and Net Influencer) document the growth of services like TikTok Live and the corresponding decline in Twitch’s share of total watch hours. I believe adding this information would help update the “History/Trends” section with more current, verifiable data.
2. Viewer behavior & monetization research
[edit]A 2025 Frontiers in Psychology study examines how gamification features (e.g., badges, points, and progress indicators) influence viewer spending and repeat engagement on livestreaming platforms. This seems relevant for the “Monetization” section, which currently does not discuss psychological or design-based factors that affect viewer behavior.
3. Relationship between streaming and gameplay engagement
[edit]I also propose adding a summary of a 2024 arXiv working paper that analyzes how increases in livestream viewership correlate with increases in gameplay time. The study finds a measurable effect and suggests that smaller streamers can generate significant engagement for certain games. This would enhance the “Impact on the video game industry” section.
All of these sources are reliable and fall within Wikipedia’s guidelines for verifiability. Please let me know if you have any concerns or suggestions before I make the edits. If there are no objections after several days, I’ll go ahead and add the material.

Seems AI generated
[edit]Marking this as Template:AI-generated. The article looks as though it is at least partially AI, due to some odd formatting and language used. Especially check out the streamer-viewer relationship section from before my edit, as well as the fact that citation 20 has an error (referencing a nonexistent citation).
