Becoming a Brill Author
Publishing with Brill

Are you looking for the perfect publishing partner for your academic research?
Brill is the publisher of many influential authors working across Humanities and Social Sciences subjects. As part of De Gruyter Brill since 2024, we combine over 300 years of expertise in academic publishing with a forward-thinking approach that responds to the evolving needs of research communities.
We are an international publisher home to well-established book series, journals and reference works, in both print and digital formats. Many of our books are published in English and we are also committed to publishing in multiple original languages.
What’s it like to be published by Brill?
Most of our acquisitions editors have a research background, bringing both an understanding of the subject as well as publishing expertise to the partnership. We work with you to make your research the best published work it can be, with the guidance of editorial boards and (external) peer reviewers at the start, and your editor to guide you through the production process. Our production times are competitive, and your book will be published simultaneously in print and electronic formats. We are at the forefront of Open Access publishing in the Humanities and Social Sciences and can advise if this is the best option for you too.

Open Access
We are committed to ensuring that our content reaches the widest possible audience, that we are research-funding compliant, and actively involved in initiatives to promote Open Access in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Perhaps in the future all books will be published this way. For now, we make decisions on a title-by-title basis based on what’s right for the title and the author as well as for us as a business.
