Today is Patch Tuesday, and that means all currently supported versions of Windows are being updated. This week's Patch Tuesday is pretty special, though. If you're running Windows 11 22H2, you'll be updated with tons of new features for your Start Menu and other parts of the operating system, and many Windows 11 23H2 features. Meanwhile, if you're still running Windows 11 version 21H2, you're getting some routine security fixes. Windows 10 users, meanwhile, are just getting security patches.

Windows 11 23H2 and Windows 11 22H2

KB5032190 (OS Builds 22621.2715 and 22631.2715)

Windows 11 23H2 and Windows 11 22H2 are both getting the same update today. It's KB5032190 (OS Builds 22621.2715 and 22631.2715). Many of the Windows 11 23H2 features Microsoft announced during its September event are shipping with this release. As a reminder, that's Copilot, the option to hover over files under Recommended, an enhanced volume mixer, improved File Explorer, and more. All of these features can be seen below, but we invite you to look through our guide for more hands-on time on what to expect.

Note that there are still three known issues in this release. Using the FixedDrivesEncryptionType or SystemDrivesEncryptionType policy settings in the BitLocker configuration service provider (CSP) node in mobile device management (MDM) apps might incorrectly show a 65000 error. Additionally, Windows devices using more than one (1) monitor might experience issues with desktop icons moving unexpectedly between monitors or other icon alignment issues when attempting to use Copilot in Windows (in preview). Also, the color font format for COLRv1 does not render properly.

To fix these issues, you can set the “Enforce drive encryption type on operating system drives” or "Enforce drive encryption on fixed drives" policies. Microsoft is also blocking Copilot for users on multi-monitor setups. The final known issue is still being worked on.

Windows 11 version 21H2

KB5032192 (OS Build 22000.2600)

If you're still running Windows 11 version 21H2, you're not getting a big update. It's just a small security tweak. You can see the full changelog below. Note you're also getting Windows 11 servicing stack update - 22000.2592. There's also a small known issue, where using the FixedDrivesEncryptionType or SystemDrivesEncryptionType policy settings in the BitLocker configuration service provider (CSP) node in mobile device management (MDM) apps might incorrectly show a 65000 error in the "Require Device Encryption" setting.

That's pretty much all there is this month. Again, it's a huge update bringing tons of new features, so you might not want to skip out. If you're still running Windows 10, meanwhile, check out the full KB5032189 changelog through Microsoft.
