The MacBook Air is arguably the most popular laptop in the world. Combined, Windows laptops sell a lot more, but the MacBook Air is still the most recognizable name on the laptop market, and for good reason. Since the introduction of Apple Silicon, and especially since the 2022 redesign, the MacBook Air has been one of the very best laptops on the market, combining incredible performance and efficiency in a premium design with a great display.

And if you're thinking about buying a MacBook Air, you might be wondering what color options you can choose from. There's a total of four, and all of them are available in both 13-inch and 15-inch sizes. Let's take a closer look at them.

Midnight Black

Midnight Black is the color to go for if you like a subdued look that's not boring. While it's called Midnight Black, the laptop is actually an extrremely dark shade of blue, so there's a bit of a sheen to it under the right lighting conditions. Still, it's a muted and classy color that perfectly fits into a classroom, office, or anywhere else you want to take it.

It's worth noting that this color can be a bit too prone to showing fingerprints, though, so if you like keeping your laptops as clean as possible, this may not be the best option for you.

Starlight

One of the latest additions to the MacBook Air color lineup, the Starlight colorway is also, in my opinion, the best. This is a soft gold colorway that looks classy, yet has a touch of whimsical that helps it stand out from the herds of black or silver laptops on the market.

It's still sleek and subdued enough to be used in professional scenarios almost anywhere, but the gold sheen on this model makes it easily one of the most interesting options yet.

Silver

The MacBook arguably popularized silver laptops and was one of the big drivers of the mainstream adoption we see today. Almost everyt laptop comes in some sort of silver colorway, and this is the absolute classic look of the MacBook Air.

It's professional, subdued, and it exudes a premium feel, so this is a great fit for almost anyone. Some might argue that the mass adoption of this sort of color makes it a bit boring, but there's also a reason why it's so popular.

Space grey

Finally, we have the Space Grey option, another absolute classic in Apple's lineup. It's been around for a long time, and it's darker, stealthier version of the Silver option. Space grey is even more subdued, but the darker topne makes it a bit more interesting, since most silver laptops tend to be on the lighter side.

It's not quite as dark as the Midnight Black option, but this colorway is also less prone to showing fingerprints, so it's a great option if you want your laptop to always look cleaner while also having a darker shade.

Which color is right for you?

Out of these colors, I'd argue the more interesting ones are Starlight and Midnight Black, primarily because they're the only new colors Apple has introduced with the latest redesign. Silver and Space Grey have always been around, and variants of them have become very common in other laptops, too. Previous models offered a Gold option, but this has been replaced by Starlight, which is a more subdued and arguably better shade of gold. Meanwhile, Midnight Black is a great option if you like dark laptops, though it's prone to fingerprints.
