Exactly a year after teasing it at Google I/O 2022 keynote, Google has officially announced the Pixel Tablet now. We have all the official information about this new tablet, so it's time to put all the leaks and rumors to rest and see what it brings to the table. We'll have more to talk about Google's new slate and share our experience once we get our hands on one. In the meantime, here's everything you need to know about the Pixel Tablet.

Pricing and availability

The Pixel Tablet was officially unveiled during the Google I/O 2023 keynote alongside a bunch of other devices including the Pixel 7a, the Pixel Fold, and more. It'll be available to purchase in Hazel, Porcelain, and Rose colors when it goes on sale for $499 in the U.S. It's now available for preorder on the Google Store and is expected to ship starting on June 20.

The best thing about the Google Pixel Tablet is that it comes with a color-matched charging speaker dock. The dock keeps your tablet charged 24/7, and it also doubles as a speaker for listening to music, watching videos, or making video calls.

Design and display

The Pixel Tablet has been in the news since Google showcased it last year during the I/O conference keynote. We've known what the Pixel Tablet looks like for a long time now, but we finally have all the details. As we mentioned earlier, it comes in three colors: Hazel, Porcelain, and Rose. The included charging speaker dock in the box is also color matched, meaning you get a matching Hazel dock in the box to go with your Hazel-colored tablet, for example.

All three variants are designed with a unique nano-ceramic coating. They all have a soft-touch matte look and feel, and they're built with over 30% recycled materials. The fit and finish of the dock accessory make it look very similar to the Google Home speakers we've seen from Google in the past.

The 10.95-inch display on the front has symmetrical bezels. Both Porcelain and Rose color variants have white-colored bezels on the front, whereas the Hazel variant has them in black.

One of the first things you'll notice about the Pixel Tablet is that it looks nothing like the newer Pixel phones. The design language that was introduced with the Pixel 6 is nowhere to be seen. Instead, the Pixel Tablet looks more like the older Pixel phones with a single camera cutout at the back and rounded edges. There are buttons on the side and pogo pins on the back to connect the included dock. The overall dimensions and weight are on par with other similarly sized tablets, and it's roughly the same size as the iPad 2022 model.

Google hasn't made a dedicated stylus for the Pixel Tablet, but it still supports USI 2.0 stylus pens. Some other noteworthy features include a USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 1 port at the bottom, a 4-pin accessory connector at the back, a quad-speaker setup with microphones, and more.

Internal hardware

A lot of the previously leaked information checks out when it comes to the specifications of the Pixel Tablet. It's powered by Google's in-house Tensor G2 processor and is coupled with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Keep in mind that there's no support for microSD cards, so we suggest you avoid the 128GB variant if you're a heavy user.

The Tensor G2, as we already know, is a fairly powerful chipset, and it should be able to handle just about any task you throw at it with ease. It can also handle a lot of Google AI features, so you can enjoy tools like Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, voice dictation, and more. Google notes that it's also the first tablet with Chromecast built-in, so you can cast music and videos on it from your phone with just a few steps.

As for camera optics, the Pixel Tablet sports an 8MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture on both the front and the back. It's a 1/4-inch image sensor with an 84-degree field of view, and you can use it to snap photos or record 1080p videos at up to 30FPS.

The Pixel Tablet dock

The Pixel Tablet is largely designed to be used with the dock, including for charging. The 27Whr built-in battery inside the Pixel Tablet supports a maximum of 15W charging rate, but you can also use a separate USB-C charger if you want to charge it away from the dock. The charging dock also doubles up as a speaker, which Google says is enough to fill a room with rich audio. The tablet itself packs a quad-speaker setup, and it'll be interesting to hear the difference in audio quality between the two.

The Pixel Tablet essentially turns into a smart display when it's docked. You can use it as a digital photo frame or a control panel to take charge of smart home devices like thermostats, lights, locks, and more. You can also summon Google Assistant to handle things for you with just your voice. We'll take a closer look at the dock once we get our hands on it for review, so stay tuned.

Final say

Google's decision to launch the Pixel Tablet with a speaker dock is interesting, to say the least. It'll make the tablet more useful when it's simply sitting at your desk or when you're not playing a game or watching a movie on it. That makes it quite unique as no other tablet on the market currently has support for a speaker dock like this one. The $499 price tag also makes it very lucrative, and it's shaping up to be a lot better than some of the best Android tablets on the market right now.
