Gboard is Google's popular first-party software keyboard solution for Android devices. It offers a decent amount of customization including the ability to change the size, background, accent color, and more. The keyboard app's auto-correct, swiping, Google search integration, GIF search, translation, and more advanced features make it the go-to keyboard app for many users. Gboard version 7.6 was recently released, and it adds a really useful feature: a floating keyboard mode.

The floating keyboard mode in Gboard makes your typing experience more flexible. It pops out a keyboard window which you can move anywhere on the screen, whether it be on the bottom of the screen or at the top left corner. Now, this isn't a novel feature by any means, but once you've gotten used to a keyboard app it's hard to change to another app. That's why we're glad to see Google's keyboard app gain new features like this so it stays competitive with other keyboard apps on Google Play. Here is what the floating keyboard looks like.

As you can see from the screenshots above, you can activate the floating keyboard mode from the expanded menu in the top left corner of the keyboard. After enabling it, you can freely move the keyboard window anywhere you want and even resize it to your liking. I noticed that the default size of the floating window is pretty small for me, so the option to resize the keyboard really comes in handy.

The update has already been pushed to the stable channel. You can download or update Gboard from the Google Play Store listing below.
