Topping our list at the best HP Chromebook is HP's newest. This Chromebook comes with a lot of premium features for a decent $1,000 price. You get an RGB keyboard, an 8MP webcam, and a display that packs in a really high resolution. Even the speakers are great, which isn't always the case with a Chromebook.

This Chromebook sports the latest CPU you'll find in any Chromebook, a 12th-generation Intel Core i5 CPU. Since it's a hybrid CPU, it has nearly perfect performance, as we found in our HP Dragonfly Pro Chromebook review. Performance is so good that you get 16GB RAM stock and a speedy fast 256GB SSD. You'll even be able to use this Chromebook for gaming if you please, thanks to the RGB keyboard, and the amazingly bright 1,200 nit screen. There's even a great set of ports, too. In a first for a Chromebook, you'll get four Thunderbolt 4 ports.

Capping things out, and similar to the second pick on our list, and this device's predecessor, the touchpad is quite excellent. It's a haptic touchpad, so you get more feedback as you tap down, or move between common parts in ChromeOS like the Desks feature. The only thing we didn't like with this Chromebook was the keyboard, which wasn't quite as responsive, and it's heavier compared to its Windows counterpart.

The HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook is one of our favorite Chromebooks as well, but it takes second place because of its higher price compared to the Dragonfly Pro Chromebook. It still combines a bit of everything on our checklist, and it's a very premium device that's built to last the test of time. When we reviewed it, we called it the "poster child" of Google-powered laptops.

One of the top reasons we love this Chromebook has to do with the CPU under the hood of the device. HP included 12th-generation Intel CPUs. You'll usually find these chips in competing Windows laptops. In our performance tests of this chip, Linux apps ran great, Android apps were fast, and webpages loaded up quickly when multitasking. This Chromebook has a fully convertible display, so you can convert the display and use it in various modes, like tent and tablet.

The haptic trackpad is great as well. You’ll get great feedback for the everyday tasks as you use your Chromebook like dragging windows into place. You can even tap anywhere you want on it to click since the entire surface is clickable.

The one downside to the CPU and specs choice, though, is the battery life, which was just average when we put the Chromebook through our daily workflows. The other things of note on this Chromebook are also the display and the haptic trackpad.

Our favorite HP Chromebook tablet is the HP Chromebook x2 11. It's a portable device with a tiny 11-inch form factor and a 1.04-pound weight. It also has excellent battery life, great performance for using Android apps, and even has a keyboard and pen included right in the box for no added cost. In our review, we found that HP's detachable keyboard is great too, and can even protect the screen when it is closed shut.

Though that small form factor might sound bad, it really isn't, as the 11-inch screen on this tablet is still quite immersive and packed with pixels. You're getting a 2.1K resolution (2160 x 1440) multitouch-enabled panel, with relatively slim bezels similar to that of the iPad Air.

Bonus features include a fingerprint reader for logins and a really great 5MP wide-vision front camera. Since this is a tablet, you'll even find an 8MP rear camera for taking pictures of documents and whiteboards, or anything else in the world. The included HP Pen is the other bonus, too, since it will unlock more options for you to make notes on your favorite documents, or paint and draw in creative apps. The pen is rechargeable and sticks to the right side of the device for safe storage.

Of note on this tablet, though, is what's powering it. While most Chromebooks come with Intel or AMD processors, this one features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c under the hood paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of eMMC storage. This is an ARM-based chip, similar to the one you'd find in an Android phone. What that means is that Android apps perform really well, and web browsing too. It also means better battery life, too, as we got to around 8 hours when we tested it.

There's a special market for business Chromebooks that can run Windows apps just fine with Parallels, and also get you great specs for heavy multitasking in ChromeOS. HP leads this market with the Elite lineup and the Elite C640 G3, though the pricing here can push close to $2,000. However, the lower-end model is just short of $1,000.

As part of the requirements for Parallels on ChromeOS, this device comes with options for up to 12th-generation Intel Core i7 processors (up to an Intel Core i7-1265U), 16GB RAM, and 512GB of storage. This CPU and RAM combo is not only good for running Windows apps, but it should get you through most of your web-based workflows without issue. Android apps should perform well too, thanks to the performance and efficiency cores of this CPU.

Turning to the display, this HP Chromebook has all kinds of display configurations. The base model has an HD 1366 x 768 display, but you can also push things higher to an FHD 1920 x 1080 resolution display panel with a crazy high 1,000 nits of brightness. Of course, you always can connect to an external display using a docking station.

It also has a spill-resistant keyboard. So, if you accidentally spill a liquid on it, there shouldn't be too much damage. Even the 5MP webcam is great, ensuring that you'll look great when on video calls. It's above the 1080p webcams on many other Chromebooks.

And yes, this Chromebook is equipped with LTE connectivity. However, it's another expensive add-on. However, this gives it the advantage of being able to use it in the field. This is thanks to the Intel XMM 7360 LTE-Advanced Cat 9 WWAN Broadband Wireless modem onboard.

A lot of the Chromebooks we've mentioned have Intel CPUs under the hood, but we can't forget AMD, either. One of the best HP Chromebooks with an AMD CPU is the HP Elite C645. This device packs in an AMD Ryzen 3 5425C, which was first released for use with Chromebooks in May 2022. It's great if you're a fan of AMD and must buy a Chromebook for your workloads. It's also great if you just need an everyday device that's efficient enough for web browsing.

This specific AMD CPU inside the HP Elite C645 is plenty fast for what ChromeOS demands. It has four cores, eight threads, and a turbo boost of up to 4.1 GHz. You'll also get 8GB of RAM with this device. Other than the AMD CPU, we have to mention the display on this Chromebook. It hits 250 nits of brightness, which is quite common for a device in this price range. The resolution is pretty great for web browsing, too, as it comes in at 1366 x 768. We usually look for FHD 1920 x 1080, but HD resolution is just fine for a Chromebook that'll be used for simple tasks.

Its design is also slim at just 0.78 inches thick and 3.39 pounds. You get two USB-C ports, a USB Type-A port, an HDMI port, and an optional smartcard reader or nanoSIM slot for LTE. This gives you the advantage of using this Chromebook on the go if you can find the customizable model on HP.com that lets you add LTE connectivity. Even the security on this device is great. You can add a fingerprint reader if you want. Then, the Chromebook has Google's Titan C security chip under the hood.

One of the best HP Chromebooks for education is the HP Chromebook 14a (na1047nr). Coming in at $289, this relatively low-cost device is great for students of all ages or if you just want a budget device with a full-sized keyboard.

Under the hood is an Intel Celeron N4500 processor that’s speedy enough for basic multitasking and opening multiple windows. This Chromebook has a vibrant 14-inch display tuned to the resolution of 1366 x 678. It might not be the highest resolution, but this is quite common at this low price, and having 14 inches of screen space can help a bit with opening multiple windows.

Built-in Bluetooth 5.0 tech and dual-band Wi-Fi connection to other devices and the internet easily. The PC also has a mineral silver finish that should fit in well in classrooms or even at home. This finish matches that of HP's other premium Chromebooks, too.

This laptop has two USB Type-C 1.4 ports and a USB Type-A port. Up at the top of the display, you'll see a 720p HD camera. Dual stereo speakers also flank the keyboard for great audio calls. As for the battery life, it's rated at 11 hours, mainly thanks to the low-resolution display.

Most education Chromebooks don’t blow anyone away with the spec sheet, and the HP 11 G8 is no exception. You get 4GB of RAM and an Intel Celeron processor that handles basic tasks with ease. The ports match those found on more premium models, and the display is sufficiently bright at a maximum of 220 nits. At under $300, this is an excellent option for student use at home or in the classroom.

We've mentioned a lot of 14-inch Chromebooks so far, we can't forget about the traditional 13-inch Chromebook. We particularly like the HP Chromebook x360 13.3, which has a great MediaTek SoC and a solid design for a $450 starting price.

This HP Chromebook x360 13.3 has the MediaTek Kompanio 1200. Since it's Arm-based and low on battery consumption you'll see that this Chromebook has a bit of extended all-day battery life. Other than that battery life aspect, Android apps should run great on this device because of the Arm-based chips.

This Chromebook also packs in a great display. It's a 13.3-inch display with an FHD 1920 x 1080 resolution. The bezels are a bit on the thicker side at the bottom of the screen, but the side bezels are quite thin, letting you feel immersed in your favorite content when stacking web pages side by side. Best of all, this is a convertible, so you can turn the screen around or use the touchscreen. If you want to take in class the old-fashioned way, you can do so thanks to the good backlit keyboard and large touchpad on the chassis.

And speaking of chassis, parts of the device are sustainably designed, so it is easy on the environment. Yet, the HP Chromebook x360 13.3 is still lightweight and portable, coming in at 12.13 x 8.22 x 0.66 inches and just 2.95 pounds. As for ports, you get two USB Type-C ports, a USB Type-A port, and a headphone jack.

The last Chromebook on our list is the HP Chromebook 11a-na0060nr. This is a no-nonsense Chromebook that sticks to the basics. It's also quite thin and light, coming in at just 2.6 pounds, and 0.66 inches, making it portable.

While you won't be opening a lot of Chrome tabs on this model, you will be able to get through the most basic web browsing and other common tasks without worry. It should not be surprising for the price, though, as you'll be limited to 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of eMMC storage. As for the display, this Chromebook is basic in that area. It comes with an 11.6-inch diagonal display rated at 220 nits. The resolution isn't the best at 1136 x 768, but it is touch compatible. That means you'll be able to interact with drawings and other items on your screen that you might have open.

The real benefit, though, of the low-resolution screen has a lot to do with battery life. This device is rated at 15 hours, which is quite high for a Chromebook. And what about ports? Well, there's not much fancy here, but HP includes expanded storage with a microSD media card reader. That's on top of the USB 2.0 Type-C port, USB-Type A, and the headphone and microphone combo jack.

We typically like to mention the webcam on Chromebooks, too. And in this case, it's the very basic 720p. Again, for this price, it's hard to complain. You can use one of the USB Type-A ports to connect a better webcam if you please.
