2026 Appropriate Technologies Field Day

The Organic Association of Kentucky (OAK), the University of Kentucky’s Center for Crop Diversification (UK CCD), and the Kentucky Horticulture Council (KHC) are hosting an Appropriate Technology Field Day at the UK Horticulture Farm in Lexington on August 25, 2026.

Exploring Farm-to-Restaurant

As I begin my fellowship and continue research, I have become increasingly interested in farm-to-table feasibility and farm-to-restaurant relationships. In the future I hope to work within the farm to table industry, so this topic is extremely meaningful and interesting to me. Throughout my research I discovered many major opportunities and strengths in local food sourcing; however, I am still left with many questions. Thankfully, throughout my internship I will have the opportunity to meet with farmers working directly within this field to discuss their perspectives.

I was fortunate to attend the recent Land-Grant Engagement Bus Tour through Western Kentucky. The trip focused on community and economic development, as well as the initiatives, successes, challenges, and opportunities shaping the region. Here are the places we visited:

Have you heard of Kentucky Mesonet? You may have seen one of their 86 weather stations around the state collecting valuable weather data that you can access online or through their app. Now, you might be thinking, “So it’s another weather station… so what?”

The University of Kentucky Center for Crop Diversification (CCD) helps farmers and businesses to plan, grow, and market better. We create and curate up-to-date, relevant, and accessible publications, price reports, videos, and in-person training opportunities.
