🇫🇷 What happens when centuries-old French maritime tradition meets modern tools? ⛵ Meet Pierre and Aurélie, the artisans behind VENT DE VOYAGE in Saint-Malo and Dinard. They breathe second life into old boat sails, meticulously transforming them into high-end, handcrafted bags and home decor-embodying why European artisans deserve the best digital tools to match their craftsmanship. For years, their craft was local. But savoir-faire knows no borders. To share their unique Breton heritage globally, Pierre and Aurélie have used Google AI to: 🌐 Go Global, Instantly: Translate and localize their digital storefront. By using AI to translate their website and draft newsletters, they have successfully reached new international clients—particularly in the United States—without losing their brand’s authentic coastal voice. 📈 Scale Without Sacrificing Soul: Automate time-consuming copywriting and planning. By generating 400 unique product descriptions and mapping out marketing plans with AI, they spend less time behind a screen and more time at the crafting table doing what they do best. New technology shouldn’t displace human creativity and heritage; on the contrary, it can help anchor them in the present day. 👇 Watch how Pierre and Aurélie are sailing into new digital horizons:

SynthID Bio is our new family of watermarking methods made for AI-generated biological designs. 🧬 In a world first, we can now embed an imperceptible signature directly into protein sequences without affecting their biological function. Acting like a digital ID card, the watermark can help DNA labs verify synthetic proteins and keep sequence databases accurate. As these requests increasingly scale, verifying if designs come from AI with built-in safeguards will help labs automate and strengthen biosecurity. As AI accelerates scientific discovery, we’re helping researchers keep pace by quickly authenticating if biological designs are created with built-in safeguards, without stalling crucial work. We’re releasing these tools on an open basis for research use to strengthen safeguards → https://goo.gle/4yBysVC

🇸🇪 🇩🇰 🇳🇴 At several stops in the Nordics last week, John Hultquist, Chief Analyst at Google Threat Intelligence Group, briefed governments, organisations & media on the current cyber threat landscape and the importance of strengthening critical national infrastructure. John highlighted two core priorities for defenders in Europe right now: 🔍 1. We should now assume that all threat actors are using AI in some capacity; we’ve seen their operations benefit in terms of speed, scale, and sophistication. As defenders, we maintain the home advantage: we know our own environments. Shifting to autonomous defense and continuous monitoring - to help triage, hunt and remediate - turns that knowledge into speed. Set the pace, rather than reacting to it. 🎯 2. With Russian hybrid operations further expanding towards European & NATO targets, we must remember that nothing will frustrate these efforts more than our cooperation and resolve. Now is the time to reassess and bolster the security of critical infrastructure across the region. Google is committed to partnering with European governments, organisations, and NATO to keep Europe secure and resilient. 👉 Read our latest quarterly AI Threat Tracker: https://lnkd.in/dY_UYhkp

🎥 The camera didn’t create cinema; filmmakers leveraged it to tell a story. Art and technology have always evolved together, but the breakthrough is never the tool - it is the human intent steering it. As Mira Lane recently pointed out, the same holds true for generative AI. Built with artists, these tools don't replace craft; they expand the canvas of storytelling and amplify diverse creative voices. For over a century, big-screen visual ambition was gatekept by budget. If an unconventional vision required complex environments, intricate lighting, or vast world-building, it rarely made it past financing. AI dismantles that specific wall, giving independent filmmakers visual capabilities once reserved exclusively for nine-figure studio productions. Many European filmmakers are already taking advantage of these tools. At the San Sebastián Film Festival, we showcased a concrete example of this with Spanish director Lucas Ortiz Estefanell’s 'Les Explorateurs'. His team used AI tools including Google Flow and Veo to execute ambitious ideas within budget, adjusting lighting and angles without restarting, while Gemini supported translation and sped up post-production. AI is completely changing the world of education and many schools and university still haven’t adapted. This week I got to sit down with Nick Fox, SVP of Knowledge and Information at Google, for an exclusive interview on all things AI. I asked him about the role AI will play in education and his thoughts on David Deming's ( Harvard University) idea of "AI encouragement" — the argument that if you can’t ban #AI, schools should actively encourage students on how to use these technologies to learn more efficiently. Nick thinks that AI will be more beneficial in the classroom than harmful, but it demands real change in how we approach education. The part I keep thinking about is friction. Having access to knowledge isn't the same as learning, and learning usually requires struggling with something before it clicks. Nick's point is that AI can actually create that friction, if it's used in the correct way, rather than as a way to get an immediate answer to a problem set. Plus, new graduates will need to know how to use these tools once they enter the job market, so it’s important they become proficient with them during their studies. #invitedby Google Europe #tech #education

At #DMEXCO in Germany 🇩🇪 Dan Taylor, Vice President of Global Ads, shared how AI is creating an expansionary moment for Google Search — and how we’re helping businesses take advantage of this evolution and grow. So how can European businesses turn AI into proven ROI? 🔍People are searching differently — using longer queries, conversational prompts, and visual search with their cameras. AI-powered campaigns help businesses keep pace and connect with these consumers. ✨We’ve integrated our Gemini models directly into the foundation of our ads systems. When Gemini improves, our ads products improve — giving businesses access to rapid AI innovation and speed to market. 🔗Read more on how Google AI helps maximize ROI and accelerate business growth: https://lnkd.in/ewjHfwva

"Europeans deserve the best." That’s what Nick Fox, SVP of Knowledge and Information at Google, replied to my question about Google’s recent proceedings with the European Commission over the Digital Markets Act (#DMA). I sat down with him this week in #Brussels for an exclusive interview on all things AI. He was clear that Europe matters to Google, they’ve recently made their biggest investment ever in Europe to build datacenters in Finland and have a huge user base, engineers on the ground, a real reason to be here. But he has concerns. - He called their recent Article 6(5) compliance the biggest degradation Google Search has ever seen. - His second concern is that the DMA may require handing user search queries to competitors, many of them not European, which he thinks creates a security risk and expose our most private questions to hacking. Fascinating to hear Google's take on the DMA, from someone actually implementing it. #invitedby Google Europe #tech #policy
