Geolocation API: Steps Google Maps Determines Your Location

Google Maps uses Geolocation API and HTML5 to pinpoint your exact location. Here’s how it works:

  • IP Address: On desktop, your IP address helps Google estimate your location.
  • GPS and Wi-Fi: On mobile, Google uses GPS signals and nearby Wi-Fi networks to improve location accuracy.
  • Cell Towers: Additionally, nearby cell towers can assist in refining the location.

This combination of location data ensures that you always get a precise reading of your location on Google Maps.

  • Desktop: Right-click the blue dot, select "Share", and copy the link to send to others.
