The Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka from 30 August to 17 September. This year, Asia Cup 2023 format will be of 50 overs with six teams are divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group will move to the super four stage and the best two from the super four stage will compete against each other in the much-awaited Asia Cup 2023 final.

Asia Cup 2023 Schedule Announced

Mr. Jay Shah, BCCI's Honorary Secretary and President of the Asian Cricket Council, has officially released the Asia Cup 2023 Schedule. This year, Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka from 30 August to 17 September. The first match of Asia Cup 2023 will be played between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan. The most awaited India vs Pak asia cup 2023 match will be played on 2nd September 2023 at Kandy, Sri Lanka and a potential rematch during the Super 4 stage is scheduled on September 10 in Colombo.

Asia Cup 2023 Format

The complete schedule venue, group and format of Asia Cup 2023 were announced on January 9, 2023. With the announcement, the stage is set for fiery competition between the six participating teams. This year, Asia Cup 2023 format will be of 50 overs with 6 teams divided into 2 groups. A total no of 13 match will be played in the Asia Cup 2023 tournament in which 6 league matches, and 6 super four matches with a final will be played in total.

  • The six teams are divided into two groups of three each. Group A consist of India, Pakistan and Nepal while the Group B consists of defending champions Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
  • During the league stage, each team in their respective group will play against each other. After the completion of the league matches, top 2 teams from both Group A and Group B will be qualified to the Super 4 stage.
  • In the Super 4 stage, every team will compete against each other in round-robin format. After the completion of Super 4 stages in Asia Cup 2023, the team having highest point will be qualified in the final of Asia Cup 2023.
  • The final of Asia Cup 2023 will be played on 17 septemebr 2023 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Asia Cup 2023 - Venues

Pakistan and Sri Lanka will host the Asia Cup 2023 matches. All the matches of India in Asia Cup 2023 will be played in Srilanka. Initially intended to take place in Pakistan, this year's Asia Cup faced uncertainty regarding match locations due to security concerns raised by BCCI, BCB and SLCB. In an attempt to address this, PCB proposed a hybrid hosting approach, but the matter remained unresolved. Consequently, Sri Lanka emerged as a formidable option to host the tournament.

Team India Matches in Asia Cup 2023

In the league stage of Asia Cup 2023, the Indian cricket team will face Pakistan and Nepal. Notably, Nepal is making its first appearance in the Asia Cup. The intense India vs Pakistan clash is scheduled for September 2, 2023, in Kandy, Sri Lanka, starting at 1:00 PM IST. Following that, India will play against Nepal on September 4, 2023, also in Kandy at 1:00 PM IST.

In a recent update, the Asian Cricket(ACC) Council confirmed that Pakistan and Sri Lanka will collaboratively host the Asia Cup 2023. The distribution provides Pakistan hosting 4 matches, while the rest will happen in Sri Lanka.

Nepal's Debut in Asia Cup 2023

Nepal is going to play in the Asia Cup 2023 for the first time. They earned this chance by winning the ACC Men’s Premier Cup. In a big match against UAE, Nepal won by seven wickets, thanks to Gulshan Kumar Jha's good batting – he scored 67 runs in 84 balls. This victory made Nepal qualified for the Asia Cup and it's a big deal because it's their first time in this important tournament.
