Bullet points and numbered lists help organize information clearly and improve readability in PowerPoint slides. They make key points easy to scan and keep your audience focused.
Steps to Add Bullet Points
Step 1: Add Bullets to Existing Text
- Select the text (or place the cursor in the paragraph) where you want bullets.
- Go to the Home tab.
- In the Paragraph group, click the Bullets button.
- PowerPoint applies the default bullet style of the current theme.

Step 2: Choose a Different Bullet Style
- Select the bulleted text.
- On the Home tab, click the small dropdown arrow next to the Bullets button.
- Choose from the available bullet styles (filled circles, hollow circles, squares, checkmarks, etc.).
- For more options, click Bullets and Numbering at the bottom of the dropdown.
In the Bullets and Numbering dialog box you can:
- Change bullet size and color
- Select picture bullets or custom symbols
- Adjust the starting level

Steps to Add Numbered Lists
Step 1: Create a Numbered List
- Select the text you want to number.
- Go to the Home tab → Paragraph group.
- Click the Numbering button.
- PowerPoint applies sequential numbers (1, 2, 3…) automatically.

Step 2: Change Numbering Style
- Select the numbered text.
- Click the dropdown arrow next to the Numbering button.
- Choose a different style (1, 2, 3… / A, B, C… / i, ii, iii… / etc.).
- Click Bullets and Numbering for advanced options such as:
- Starting number
- Number format and color
- Font size of the numbers

Step 3: Create Multi-Level (Nested) Lists
- Create a bulleted or numbered list.
- Place the cursor at the beginning of a line you want to indent.
- Press the Tab key to move it to the next level (sub-point).
- Press Shift + Tab to move it back to a higher level.

Step 4: Customize Spacing and Alignment
- Select the list.
- On the Home tab, open the Paragraph dialog box launcher.
- Adjust:
- Indentation (Before text / Special)
- Spacing before and after bullet points
- Line spacing
This helps control how tightly or loosely the list appears on the slide.
