    ストーリー展開の早さとかわくわくする感じはさすがシドニーシェルダンだーって思います。面白い。だけど、少しじめっとした、あまり好きではない印象もある。性的な男の欲望の描写とか、女性の性の扱い方については、個人的にはなんか痛い、という感があった。具体的には書きませんが

    男を糧にしてどんどん立身出世してゆく絶世の美女ノエルとキャリアウーマンのキャサリンの物語で元アメリカ空軍ラリーとの三角関係で話が盛り上がります。テンポも良く一気に読めました。結構面白かったです。続編は、「明け方の夢」とのことで　いずれは読んでみたいです。

    確かに素人くさい訳で、誘惑を排して集中しないと中々ページが進まない。ただ原書がそんなに素晴らしいとも思えず（生意気(._.;)ペコ）、翻訳だけに原因を求めることは出来ないと思う。

    文学としてのクオリティを求めるならともかく、原書の答え合わせの意味で読んだので、最低限の役割は果たしてくれた感じ。ラストは切なく、長〜い夢を見ていたような気持ちになった。

    いわずもがなのベストセラー。訳書の方が大衆受けしやすいのはわかるが、普通の原文が低俗にされ、登場人物の性格描写の間違いなど愚訳の一言。原作を伝えるのではなく日本語文化を通しての見方で焼き直しし過ぎである（だから売れるのか？）。これは訳者による別作品。これをもって原作者を評価するのは問題がある。甘くみても翻案。

    辞書を調べれば済む語彙も面倒なのか適当にごまかしたり、ちょっと複雑な構文になると訳すこと自体を放棄。まるで高校生が授業でみせるこじつけ訳。『翻訳教室』に出てくる東大英文科の学部生の方がずっと正しく訳すだろう。

    大体、The other side of midnight がなんで『真夜中は別の顔』になるのか。midnightは時間的に重要な舞台となる第二次大戦であることを理解していないのか。the other sideが普通どういう意味で使われるか知らないのか。

    原著は中身の面白さの是非は別として、語彙はそれほど難しくないが、表現は練られているので、英語に少しなれた人でも味わい損なうかもしれない。それでも読むなら原書をお勧めする。こんないい加減な訳にお金を払う必要はない。
