某国立大学の工学部助教授の傍ら1996年、『すべてがFになる』（講談社文庫）で第１回メフィスト賞を受賞し、衝撃デビュー。以後、犀川助教授・西之園萌絵のS&Mシリーズや瀬在丸紅子たちのVシリーズ、『φ（ファイ）は壊れたね』から始まるGシリーズ、『イナイ×イナイ』からのXシリーズがある。

密室ともいうべき孤島・妃真加島の中の、密室ともいうべきハイテク研究所・真賀田研究所の中の、これは正真正銘の完全な密室である地下2階の窓のない部屋に厳重隔離され、部屋の外に出ることを許されない生活を15年間、送ってきた天才プログラマーにして工学博士の真賀田四季。彼女は14歳の時、両親殺害の容疑で起訴されたが、無罪の判決を得て以来、ここに閉じ込められているのです。 その四季の部屋から、ウェディング・ドレスをまとい、両手両足を切断された死体がこちらに向かってくるではありませんか。 その後、四季の叔父である研究所長の新藤清二、さらに、副所長の山根幸宏の殺害死体が発見されます。 偶然、島を訪れていたN大学工学部建築学科助教授・犀川創平と、その教え子である建築学科1年の西之園萌絵が、この不可思議な密室殺人の謎に挑みます。 半分ほど読み進んだ時点で、これぞ犯人と私は膝を打ったのだが、見事外れでした（涙）。 『すべてがFになる――THE PERFECT INSIDER』（森博嗣著、講談社文庫）は、理系の理系作家による理系人間のための推理小説です。 文系人間である私が大きくのけ反る結末が、最後の最後に待ち構えていました。

    言わずもがなの有名な作品ですので、トリックをはじめ、内容は大変楽しめました。

    ただ、文章が明らかに粗雑なのが、玉に瑕だと思います。例えば「〇〇は旨い煙草を吸った」というような表現が多数ありますが、煙草は吸ってうまいと感じるものであり、読者目線からすれば「旨そうにタバコを吸った」とかでいいのでは・・・とか一人で突っ込んでしまった。

    その他、素人が読んでも表現上改善すべき余地が多々目についてしまい(編集者が指摘してあげればいいのにと思ってしまった)、そのせいで読みにくさを感じてしまったので、星は4つです。

    N大工学部の准教授・犀川創平と学生の西之園萌絵は、ゼミ旅行で愛知県の孤島・妃真加島にある真賀田研究所を訪れます。研究所には、少女時代から隔離された環境で生活を続ける天才科学者・真賀田四季博士がいました。

    しかし滞在中、外部との接触が不可能なはずの四季の部屋から、ウェディングドレスをまとった異様な死体が発見されます。密室状況の中で発生した不可解な事件を前に、犀川と萌絵は調査を開始します。

    孤島という閉ざされた舞台で展開される本作は、本格ミステリーとしての謎解きの面白さはもちろん、理系ならではの論理的な思考や科学的な視点が物語全体に息づいている点が大きな魅力です。また、天才・真賀田四季博士の存在感や、コンピュータに残された「すべてがFになる」という謎めいたメッセージも強い印象を残します。

    微笑むとタバコを吸ったと云う表現が多いので、それが何か事件に関係してくるのかと思ったが違った。

    語彙が少ない？　とも最初思ったが、最後に行くに従ってテンポの良い、詩的な文に引き込まれた。

    これが90年代半ばに書かれたのは、凄い。

    殺しの動悸が良くわからなかったが、それは私が凡人だからなのだろう。

    初めて手に取った森博嗣作品。

    1週間かけて、じっくりと言葉の密度と構造の妙を味わいながら読み進めた。

    濃密なプロットの中に織り込まれた深い思索。

    そして密室殺人という古典的装置の中で解き明かされる謎は、見事な爽快感をもたらしてくれた。

    なかでも胸を打たれたのは、博士の言葉だ。

    「死んでいることが本来の姿であり、生きていることこそが異常」

    この一節が、私の中で眠っていた哲学的思索を強く喚起した。

    目の前にあるこの現実は、ありふれているようで実は奇跡的な連続だ。

    遥かな時間をかけて築かれた世界の上に、先祖たちが絶やすことなくつないできた「血」があり、その延長線上に今の自分がいる。

    生きているという、この一瞬一瞬の“奇跡”。

    そしてその奇跡の中で、この作品と出会い、言葉に触れたことの奇跡。

    それらがすべて、自分の中で血肉となり、知識の結晶となっていくのを感じている。
