    丸谷才一は小説よりも軽妙洒脱なエッセイを愛読していましたが、その死の2年前に出版された対談『文学のレッスン』（新潮文庫に収録）でこの『日本文学史早わかり』のことが触れられており、さっそく入手して読みました。日本文化の代名詞ともいえる能や俳句などはみな平安時代の歌が下地になっており、これこそ日本文化の真髄だと思っていたので、王朝勅撰集を軸に日本文学史をとらえようとする本書は、まさにその私の思いを裏打ちしてくれるものとして、我が意を得たりの気持ちがしました。その軸を古典文学にとどまらず、近現代文学にまで伸ばして通観しようとする意気は拍手ものです。ちなみに世界文学の見取り図は、先にあげた『文学のレッスン』で読むことができますが、こちらも世界の文学の見通しをうんと良くしてくれる達人の案内です。

    韻文、和歌や詩が持つ力、言葉の力が見直される機会になるか、

    昨今の和歌ブーム。単なる口語の言葉遊びではなく、

    文学の歴史を振り返る時、手に取ってほしい一冊。

    物語を読むような文学史の本。

    最近の若い人は国語の時間に文学史を習わなかったり、

    せっかくの国語便覧も活用していないみたいなので、

    この手の本を読んでほしいなあ。

    自然主義文学は直前の硯友社文学を否定した。

    つまり江戸文学を否定した。

    その意義は大きい。

    この文学革命で近代文学は成立した。

    が、失ったものも多い。

    文学がむやみに生まじめになり、深刻になり、遊戯性と笑いが失われ、

    人生の把握のしかたが単純になった。

    ホイジンガを援用するまでもなく、人間のあらゆる文化活動は遊戯として発生したし・・・・・・・・・・・・

    そして対話、議論が成立しなくなり、自由がなくなり、見込みのない戦争に突入していく・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・

    というふうに、歴史をパッとつかむのが魅力の本。

    こんな先生が高校にいたら面白かったろうなあ・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・

    日本文学史を駆け足で見ようと思うなら国語便覧を読めばよいわけで

    この本で文学史を学べる訳ではないです。あくまで上質なエッセイ。

    勅撰和歌集の位置づけを重視しておられるのは面白い視点だと思うが

    勅撰集が文化を作ったかのように書かれるのは言い過ぎで、あくまで

    文化的背景が勅撰集を作らせたのだろうと思いました

    読むのに8時間かかった。

    ソフトカバーでフォントも読みやすい文庫本。

    詩文を中心に日本文学史を古代から明治期までをまとめている。

    文中に詩を載せて解説をしてあるので、前提知識なしに詩を味わえる本です。

    日本の文学は詩文が中心で、ゆえに日本文学史は詩歌集を元に時代区分を分ける話は面白かった。

    勅撰集を作る作業は天皇からの仕事。

    今でいうと大規模なインフラ工事を想起させました。

    詩の鑑賞力を上げることはシンプルな考え方を身につけるのではないかと思いこの本を手に取りました。

    詩に災害について詠っているものもあるので参考になる。

    ふつうの入門書かと思って読んでみたのですが，決してそんなことはありませんでした。入門書の類ではありません。

    内容は明治以前の短歌・俳諧が中心ですが，かつての日本文学がいかにユニークで，豊かであったかを，平易な語り口で説明してくれます。読みはじめは英文学から話を始めるなど，かなり唐突な印象でしたが，所々に核心を突くことばが散りばめられていて，あっという間に内容に引き込まれてしまいました。専門的な内容でありながら，高校の教科書程度の知識しかない自分にも，かなりおもしろく読めた本です。

    高校などで学んだ日本文学史とは赴きを異にする一冊です。詩歌や、勅撰集の撰者とその価値観で時代を区分する考え方が新鮮でした。ただ、講談社文庫で数百円の本が文芸文庫になったとはいえ、すこし割高な感じがしました。
