    麻雀の天才アカギが裏麻雀界でバッサバッサと敵を薙ぎ倒していくある種のヒーロー物漫画です。

    単にアカギの戦記モノとして読むのなら、単純明快な話で、正直そこまで面白くもありません。アカギが主人公で、しかも出てくる麻雀勝負が全部負けたら即死級のトンデモレート勝負なのだから勝って当然。漫画の成立を考えれば結果は見えているのだからどうってことはないです。

    むしろ、これを麻雀＝人生の縮図と捉えて読むと大変面白い漫画になります。

    哲学的な話をすると、作中のアカギは積極的ニヒリズムの体現者です。結果がどうであれ、その時々の手配でできる最善の手を打ちます。何を捨ててもロンされて死ぬならヤクザの組員の目の前でも迷わずにイカサマをします。そうしないと負けが確定するなら河底に賭けて役なし聴牌だってします。その意味で、アカギはただただ前に進むために、手配を少しでもよくするために打牌するだけの単純な人間です。

    一方で、作中の対戦者は基本的に土壇場で逃げます。勝負を見送り、結果だけにこだわり、最後は結末を天に任せようとします。つまり、自分の力での現状改善を諦めて運に救済を求めるのです。ほどほどの結末、勝ちより負けないこと、いまの有利な状況の維持に徹します。それで結局はアカギに負けます。

    この二つが出会うと何が起きるか。結局、現状維持してなんとかなれと投げやりな対戦者と、結果を度外視しても前進を続けるアカギの対比です。後者は結局勝ちます。それはむしろ麻雀に勝つという意味でなく、自分が目指す方向に進めるかどうかという意味です。まぁ、当たり前のことなんですが、そもそもどこも目指してない対戦者たちがどこかに到達することなんて有り得ないわけで、態度や勝負への向き合い方の時点ではなから勝負はついているわけです。

    我々の人生でもそうです。そこそこ成功してそこそこの賃金で生きて、たまに就活だの業績比べだのと勝負の真似事をして勝った負けたと言ってるのが我々凡人です。アカギは違います。アカギにとって自分の進みたい方向に進むことが勝負です。そして、それを放棄することが敗北なのです。

    別の漫画でアカギが死に際に「熱い三流なら上等」というシーンがあります。これはまさに、熱を持って、行きたい方向にいくことが上等という意味です。そのために立ち止まる自分、怯える自分を殺してでも前に進む。それが熱い三流の条件、本当の意味での成功なのです。

    似たような話で岡本太郎の「自分の中に毒を持て」という本があります。この本を読んでみると岡本太郎とアカギはとてもよく似てることがわかるので、岡本太郎のエッセイを読んでみると尚楽しめるかと思います。

    読んでおいた方がいいですよ…10巻くらいまでのアカギは…！

    鷲巣麻雀編はあまりにも長くダレますが、序盤のテンポの良さと面白さ、名言のオンパレード、

    麻雀漫画でもトップクラスに面白いです。

    読むとなんか麻雀が強くなった気がして、打ちに行きたくなるのだけ、注意しましょう。

    アカギ最終巻まで読んだら、アカギも鷲巣も好きになる。

    本当は「銀と金」のスピンオフ作品である「アカギ」のようですが、「アカギ」を読んでからの「銀と金」もまたよいのでおすすめ。
