    ブリュノ・デュ・ロゼル『20世紀モード史』西村愛子訳、平凡社、1995年。原著はLa Mode (1980)。

    20世紀民衆衣装の変遷を網羅的に辿った図書。20世紀初頭から1970年代までを扱い、広範囲の地域を取り上げて近代化において洋服が普及していった経緯を述べています。

    普通、モード史やファッション史では、19世紀までは資料が残りやすい有閑階級（貴族階級その他）の衣装変遷をヨーロッパの流行として叙述され、20世紀になって突如として一般民衆の衣装が注目されます。そのため《取って付けた衣服史》に陥りがちでした。しかし、本書は最初から民俗衣装と既製服に注意し、一般民衆の衣装に多くのページを割いている点が特徴です。本書の焦点は20世紀モードですが、19世紀までの概略についても一般民衆が取り上げられるため、読みやすい安定した叙述がなされています。20世紀モード史
