    本来は何ヶ月も前に出版されているはずだった待望の論文集がついに発売となりました。

    怒涛の徳倫理学文献の翻訳ブームですが、本書はその中でも、徳倫理に関する「基本論文」を広く紹介しようという試みです。

    基本論文の定義や選別基準は必ずしも分かりませんが、恐らく「古典的論文」に近い扱いと思われ、本書に収録している論文の大半は古いものです。なんと（？）70年代の論文から収録され、順々に新しくなっていき、2000年以降の論文は二本だけ収録されています。

    これ（2016年も近くなった時期の最新の翻訳であるにも関わらず、古い論文が大半で2000年以降の論文はたった二本という内容）は正直不満点でもあり得るのですが、本書があくまで古典的論文の紹介を目的とした本であるという認識、これまでは古い基本論文、基本的議論すらろくに紹介されていなかった以上まずはここから出発せざるを得ないのだ、という認識を持てば、そういう不満は緩和されるでしょうし、また幸い、最新の知見には少し前に翻訳された「ケンブリッジ・コンパニオン 徳倫理学」などで触れる事ができますので、大きな問題ではないでしょう。

    それに中身を見てみると、個人的な見解ではありますが、存外古い論文の方が面白かったり、質が高かったりします。古いからといって色褪せているという事はありません。むしろ70年代に書かれながら未だに古典論文として翻訳紹介されるようなものは、それだけ豊かな長持ちする価値を持っているとも言えるのです。

    また本書に収録されている論文は、功利主義、カント主義、リベラリズム、ケア倫理など意外に多様な立場から書かれていて、徳倫理に関する論文を通して、徳倫理のみならず、その他の倫理学的立場も勉強できる、という興味深い内容になっています。

    恐らく徳倫理関系の一連の翻訳はここらで一区切りになるのではと思われますが、本書を含むそれらの翻訳によって今後日本の徳倫理研究の水準や量も大きく変わってくるのではないかと思います。改めて大変意義深い翻訳だったと言わざるを得ません。一気に紹介されすぎて今度は逆に国内の議論対象や参考対象が徳倫理に偏ってしまうのではないか、という心配もなきにしもあらずですが、昨今の日本にはとても元気が良く実力も凄まじい「功利主義者」達もいますし、倫理学関係の翻訳もまだまだ幅広く進められていく予定があるようなので、心配はないのかもしれません。ただ最近はかつて国内で最も元気だった（人気があった）ように思える「カント主義者」がやけに元気を失っているように見えます。徳倫理本のレビューで書く事でもないですが、個人的には今後カント倫理の盛り上がりにも期待をよせたいところです。

    強いて言うなら不満点を挙げる事もできるでしょうが、基本的には省略しようと思います。ただ例えば徳倫理学が再興するきっかけを作ったアンスコムの紹介や、既に紹介されている徳倫理文献、徳倫理解説では必ず代表的論者として頻出するスロート等がこの機会に紹介されなかったのは少々残念でした。特にアンスコムくらいは、この機会に基本論文として収録しても良かった気がします。量的労力的な限界などからやむを得ないとは言え、古典論文集としても、重要な欠落があるというのは読者が念頭に置いておいても良い気はします。
