    時代背景や時間の進み方、何もかも現代とは異なる中でのミステリー。

    現代人には謎解き＋αの楽しみ方ができるクリスティのミステリーも面白く当時の世界観も興味深い。

    チムニーズ館はセブンダイアルズという作品に再び登場する舞台でもあり是非併せて読んでいただきたいです。バンドルやお馴染みの登場人物にまた出会えます。

    かつて創元推理文庫で読んで大好きだったので読み直し。

    内容は本当に面白い…でも文書がいかにも「翻訳です」って感じで違和感が拭えず、最後まで物語世界に入り込めない。

    旧訳本をどこか出してくれないかなぁ。

    まず、主人公のキャラクターが良い。

    始まりからして、怪しくてわくわくします。

    主人公の友人が怪しく思えます。

    悪そうな人はあまり出てこないのに、全員が怪しく見えます。

    怪しくないのはチムニーズ荘の当主ぐらいかな。

    巻き込まれて、気の毒にって思えるのはこの人とバトルだけ。

    元首相の回顧録を巡って描かれる、王政と共和制の対立と王位継承問題に、石油利権を巡る各国の争い。

    そんな中で殺人事件が起き、敏腕刑事も登場。

    さらには王家の宝を狙う大泥棒まで関わって、笑いありロマンスありで、もう詰め込みすぎでしょ！ってくらい、あらゆる要素がてんこ盛りです。

    そしてそれが矛盾の無いよう綿密に絡み合い、秀逸なミステリー要素も相まって、エンターテイメント性の非常に高いストーリーになっています。

    これだけの要素が詰め込まれているので、もちろんご都合主義なところはありますが、スピード感のある展開でこちらに考える隙を与えず、どんどん読み進めたくなる力で細かい事は全部どこかへ吹っ飛んでしまいました。

    何も考えずに、作品の持つ勢いにまかせて読むと非常に楽しめるかと思います。

    また、登場人物は多いながらも、全員キャラクターが立っていて生き生きとしているので、全体的に明るい作風なのも気に入りました。

    クリスティーはこれを楽しんで書いていたんだろうな〜というのがとても伝わってきます。

    こちらまで楽しくなれる作品でした。
