    オーストラリアの砂漠にある鉱山で強制労働をさせられている反社会的な博士の妻から救出の依頼を受けたWebライターは「自称経験者」に簡単な取材をしただけで現地にむかいます。もちろん妻からの報酬と成功した際の自らのジャーナリストとしてのランクアップが目的です。

    この作者の描く近未来はいつも悲観的なのですが、特に地球温暖化が進みほぼすべての動植物が絶滅してしまい人工的な食品でしか栄養補給ができなくなるうえに、貧富の差はますます広がり、日本人は海外に出稼ぎにいって家族に細々と仕送りをしなくてはならない姿を描いています。

    自分以外の他者としてまず「家族」そして「友人」や「地域」、さらに社会的集団としての「学校」「会社」とのかかわりにくわえて目に見えない「SNSつながり」などあったほうが充実なのか、ないほうがひょっとすると幸せなのでは？そして自分の責任と判断で人生を終結させる権利を持つべきなのでは？という問いかけに答えられるのはおのおのの読者のみ、ということになります。

    篠田節子『ロブスター』読了。

    これは、著者の守備範囲ではあるが、決した作品が多いわけではないSFジャンルに属する。

    それも、近未来ディストピアSFである。

    舞台はオーストラリアの砂漠の中で、鉱山から捨てられたボタ山に希土類が含まれていることが分かり、それを再度掘り出すプラントが稼働している。

    そのプラントにアメリカ出身の博士が幽閉されており、妻は彼の帰還を望んでいるということで、日本人女性の駆け出しジャーナリストが連れ帰ることを任務としてプラントに潜入する。

    温暖化が加速し、気温は60℃の世界である。

    日本は没落して久しい。

    幽閉されているはずの、プラントのオペレーターたちは、なぜか変わり者ばかりだが、ここが居心地よく、自分の意志でここにとどまっている。博士もしかり。

    そして、砂漠で蛇を釣って、それを餌にしてサソリを釣る。そのサソリを焼いて食べるのだ。

    味がロブスターに似ているという。

    まあ、そんな未来のディストピアが描かれているのだが、篠田節子らしい描写力で迫ってくるところが、本作の読みどころ。

    ただ、トランプを彷彿させるアメリカの福音主義の大統領は任期が1期だけで終わったとされている。トランプ再選前に出版されているのだから、そう思ったのも無理はないのだけれど、そこだけはちょっと「あれっ？」と感じてしまったｗ

    いつもの著者らしい骨太作品とは違って、ちょっと評価に困る。

    テーマ的には面白いけど、ここで終わるの？むしろここからが面白そうなのに…という物足りなさ。

    この作品に限らないけど、最近日本の価値が落ちきってしまうような作品をよく目にする。

    そのうちそうなりそうな怖さと残念さを感じるけど、小説としてはもう少しその先が欲しい。

    学業成績が優秀でもリーダーシップに秀でていない

    ↑うん。この自覚は大事だ

    しかし活躍出来る分野としてヤマっけ高い方を選ぶのは何故だろう…

    ヒロインは割と定型なのに、さすがは篠田氏。こりゃまた色々詰め込んでありますねー

    読後に真っ先に思ったのが「なかなかいい会社だな」。

    どうも最近自分は「そこじゃないだろう」をピンポイントに引掛けたがっているらしい

    ちなみにヒロインが「事前検査」を受けたなら、

    適応できるとされたのか適応しないとされたのかいったいどっちだったろう

    彼女は博士によりプロクロステスのベットに合わせるよう教育されたのか

    始めから合っていたのか

    大変楽しく読みました
