    大変興味深く読めました。紫式部がいかに言葉・表現に苦心したか、が分かります。やはり『源氏物語』は凄い。

    個人的にはp92〜の『枕草子』との比較が面白かった。丸谷才一の解説「まぼろし電話」も秀逸。惜しむらくは学術書なので索引が欲しかった。よって⭐️マイナス１。

    　源氏物語の創作過程の論考が主なテーマの本。

    　成立論として、源氏物語の全五十四帖をａ〜ｄ系の四つに分けて論考されますが、これに少し戸惑いを感じたり、この本にとっつきにくさを感じた場合は、「光る源氏の物語」(中公文庫)を事前に読む事をお勧めします。(こちらは、丸谷才一氏との対談本)

    　ですが、対談では語りきれない内容が、この本にはこめられています。

    　紫式部が、自分の書く内容やニュアンスを表す言葉が当時の日本語に無かったために、おこなった言葉の工夫。そして、紫式部の文章における美意識など、国語学者ならではの分析に沿っての解説がされています。

    　他にも、源氏物語の創作において、テーマが「致富譚→男女のくい違い」という風に変化をしていくこと、作品の裏にある紫式部の漢籍に対する教養や、紫式部個人の女房づとめの経験が作品にどのように反映されていったのかが、「紫式部日記」との関連で分析されます。

    　著者は、自分は「源氏物語」の専門家ではない、というような断りを入れていますが、最後まで真面目で手抜きの無い論考がなされています。

    　とても面白い本でした。

    古書で購入したら、あちこちに鉛筆で線が引かれていて幻滅しましたが、内容はとても興味深く読みました。

    物語が「紫の上」系と「玉鬘」系に分けられる理由と、それぞれの特徴についてわかりやすく書かれています。

    しかも、後半についても、別の二つの系列に分類して、それぞれの考察を続け、作者の内面に迫ろうとします。

    入門書を読んだ人が次に読むレベルではないでしょうか。

    源氏は現行の順番で書かれたのではない――。私はこの本の主張に従つて源氏を読み直してをります。「桐壷」の次は、「帚木」「空蝉」「夕顔」を飛ばして「若紫」へ、「末摘花」を飛ばして「紅葉賀」へ....そして「藤裏葉」で「最初」の源氏が終はり、「帚木」へ帰るのです。

    不可解なほどあちこちに飛んでゐた話が整理され、大変見通しのいい、わかりやすい進行です。大野氏の著は源氏の正しい理解に、太い道筋をつけてくれるものです。源氏を読破したいと思ふ方は、この有益な示唆に耳を傾けることをお勧めします。

    突飛な説ではありません。本居宣長によつて提出された疑問を、和辻哲郎が発展させ、阿部秋生、武田宗俊といふ学者が完全な形で世に問うたのださうで、到底無視できない証拠が掲げられてをります。

    中でも強力なのは、b系（空蝉など、のちに挿入された巻々）の登場人物は、全くａ系（最初の源氏物語）に現れず、逆にａ系の人物はｂ系に現れる。しかもａ系は、ｂ系なしに完全に物語として成立する（源氏が位を極めるといふ結末まで整つてゐる）、といふことです。

    そしてａ系を先に読んでから、それを抜いてｂ系を読んでゐても、人物の紹介が前後したりするやうな構造のをかしさは全く生じません。それどころか夕顔、末摘花、玉鬘のエピソードが繋がり、かへつてわかりやすくなるのです。順番を違へて読んで、こんなことがありうるでせうか。

    また、「夕顔」（ｂ系）の末尾で作者自身、「こんなくだくだしいことは書かずに残しておいたのですが、『どうして帝の皇子だというだけで、ほめちぎるのか』と、取り沙汰する人」がゐるので書いた、と記してゐるのは、のちにｂ系を書き足したことを明かしてゐるものだ、といふのもその通りだと思ひます。
