HORRIFIC: An 18-year-old Indian tourist, Romanch Mahajan, was thrown to his death from a horse-drawn carriage in Central Park on Wednesday after the horse suddenly bolted.

The driver had stepped away near Cherry Hill to take a photo of the family when the animal took off. The runaway carriage careened and overturned.

Mahajan jumped out of the carriage in an attempt to save his mother, who had fallen out, only to suffer fatal blunt force trauma to the head. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The union representing carriage drivers has now halted all rides.
