How to use Google Fi outside of the US

What you need to know about the international roaming policy

Activate your service: Activate and use your service in the US for at least one day before using it abroad. This policy is required by Google Fi’s Terms of Service. All new devices need to be activated and used in the US for at least one day before using them abroad. This applies to all Google Fi users and all SIM types, including eSIM, physical SIM, and similar.

Understand usage limits: An extended period of use outside the US, typically 50 days, triggers a warning. This warning is communicated over email and an in-app notification. Your account remains active, but your international data is suspended 30 days after this email.

You can avoid suspension by returning to the US after receiving the first warning and using data for at least a week. Usage abroad soon after avoiding suspension may cause quicker future warnings.

About suspension: After your international data is suspended, you can still call and text. International data access is not restored until you use significant data in the US for at least 30 days.

Review exceptions: International exceptions apply to military and State Department employees who serve abroad. This requires verification of government status.

Where you can use Google Fi

You can use your Google Fi service in over 200 destinations.

  • Unlimited Standard: Includes international use in Canada and Mexico.
  • Flexible and Unlimited Premium: Support international travel abroad. You can switch to Unlimited Premium from Unlimited Essentials or Unlimited Standard immediately. Other plan changes take effect in the next billing cycle.
  • Unlimited Essentials: Does not work outside the US.

Subscribers on a Pixel 7+ device can take advantage of multiple international networks to keep you connected while you travel. Use an eSIM instead of a physical SIM card with no other active SIM cards for the most seamless network switching experience. Be sure your OS and Fi app software are on the latest versions.

Note: 5G service availability varies by area. Performance depends on device configuration, network traffic, location, and signal strength. For details, visit g.co/fi/broadband-facts.
