The Brazilian Digital Statute for Children and Adolescents
The Brazil Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente Digital(opens in a new window) (“ECA Digital”) aims to protect children and adolescents in Brazil online.
OpenAI is committed to complying with the ECA Digital to further this shared objective. We work hard to promote the responsible use of our products and to keep our users (including those under 18) safe online.
We take the protection of our users, including children, seriously. Users must be at least aged 13 and above to use our services. We aim to balance delivering helpful and accessible information to all users while mitigating the risks of online harm. We use a range of procedures and tools to protect users, including teen users, from illegal and harmful content.
Our Usage policies make clear the types of content, including illegal content or content harmful to children, not allowed on our services. We implement a range of measures to prevent, detect, respond to and take enforcement action against violative content.
To help prevent users generating, encountering and accessing illegal and harmful content on our services, we use proactive technology such as classifiers, reasoning models, hash-matching, blocklists, and other automated systems to detect violative content, and help us take appropriate actions like blocking and restricting such content.
More information on our moderation and enforcement processes is set out in our Transparency & content moderation page. To learn more about the measures we take to protect our users online you can visit our Safety page and our Combating online child sexual exploitation & abuse page.
If you see content which you think is potentially violative of our policies, please let us know. Please see our Reporting content(opens in a new window) page, for details on how to make your report should you encounter such content on our services.
How to appeal content moderation decisions
If we take enforcement action against your content or activity, and you think we have made a mistake, you can report to us or appeal by emailing trustandsafety@openai.com or contacting support(opens in a new window).
We may reassess, considering any additional information you provide. If your appeal is successful, we will reverse the enforcement action.
In Brazil, ChatGPT uses an age prediction model to help estimate whether a user is under 18. When the age prediction model estimates that an account may belong to someone under 18, ChatGPT automatically applies additional protections designed to address sensitive content areas. In instances where we’re unsure of a user’s age, we’ll take the safer route and apply additional safeguards proactively. For more information on age prediction, please visit our Age prediction(opens in a new window) page.
Parental controls are an additional tool that parents can use to ensure their teens are opted into our age-appropriate teen experience. Parental controls on ChatGPT are designed to ensure that parents or guardians have control over their teen’s experience online. For more information on our approach, please visit our Introducing parental controls, Parental controls - FAQ, (opens in a new window) and Parent resource(opens in a new window) pages.
