On the Multifaceted and Complex Appeal of 'Apocalypse Forecast'
I found the work 'Apocalypse Forecast' to be so incredibly interesting that I wanted to discuss it with someone, so I started translating it to spread the word, but I have recently been facing the difficulty of conveying the appeal of this work.
How should I present this work? How can I express and convey its appeal in a catchy way? I've thought about it in various ways, but 'Apocalypse Forecast' is a multifaceted, complex, and large-scale work—at least, it is too difficult for me to convey in a single word.
Many recent Japanese light novels and manga have long titles that say, 'This work is about this! Please read it with peace of mind,' so I thought I would try giving 'Apocalypse Forecast' a long, light-novel-style subtitle, but it didn't go very well.
Below, I will introduce the titles I came up with. It's embarrassing because I have no sense for this, but.../////
A: 'Apocalypse Forecast: Leveling Up with Alchemy and Microtransactions'
B: 'Apocalypse Forecast: The Boy, the Crow, and the Twenty-Four Elements of Destruction'
C: 'Apocalypse Forecast: The Story of a Poor Boy Who Contracts with a Crow to Save His Life from Assassination, Becomes an Ascendant, and Saves the World'
D: 'Apocalypse Forecast: Turning Both Anger and Sorrow into Weapons, the Boy Takes Revenge'
E: 'Apocalypse Forecast: Huai Shi, Male, Seventeen, Selling My Life'
None of them are quite right... but,
if you'd like, I would be happy if you could write in the comments section which title you find most intriguing!
For one thing, I haven't fully grasped the overall picture of 'Apocalypse Forecast' myself, but the story is just so long, the setting shifts from a realistic world to fantasy worlds like frontiers or hell, and even goes to the moon. It's a given that the protagonist gets stronger and stronger, but the number of characters keeps increasing, and there are sci-fi elements, mystery elements, and romantic comedy harem elements packed in—it's filled with the author's various 'romantic' interests, so I think the way readers perceive this work varies.
I thought
• The characters, especially the protagonist Huai Shi, are charming
• The unique, grand, and well-crafted worldview
• The complex human relationships, such as the conflicts between various organizations
• The well-developed story and the foreshadowing woven throughout
were interesting.
I haven't read it myself, but it seems the trend is similar to 'A Certain Magical Index' among Japanese light novels.
Conveying the appeal of a work is difficult... I truly realize that I am not suited for public relations or sales.
That is why I will continue to translate the original novel bit by bit every day...
